A taxi driver worth avoiding - whatever his name is!

BANGKOK: -- A video is doing the rounds of Facebook after it caught a taxi driver with a meter with a mind of its own.

The meter seems to be going up two baht every few seconds until it records 1,084 baht for a few hundred baht journey.

Then to add insult to injury it jumps to 1,195 baht in the blink of an eye. The driver seems to think that the passengers should pay but they are incredulous, reports Daily News.

Kitti Kuaysomboon, 30, who posted the evidence on his Facebook page told Daily News online that he was taking a journey with his sister and her boyfriend to Saphan Mai to see his mother.

He didn't notice anything at first but his sister started filming in the back. Apart from the speed of the meter it was flashing strangely too, something Kitti had never experienced before.

When the journey was over they paid 300 baht and then promptly reported the matter to the land department who said they would investigate.

But the meter was not the only irregularity. The name of the taxi driver in English was Mr Tawan but this was completely different to the name written in Thai.

Kitti said he posted the footage as a warning to others while many people commented on the story online.

If it's dodgy, just tell the driver to stop and and get out.

There are plenty of decent taxi drivers here. You'll take the next taxi.

Well if you feel like the meter is wrong and you are overcharged: just get the ID in the front of the taxi (take it out)

and go with this to the next police!!!!!!!111

Taking care to dodge the machete!

Whilst that sounds morally right expect a wheel brace or other heavy object lamped across your head. Best try and take a picture of the card and then get out of the car, ensuring people arte watching and ask the driver to call the police. See if he sticks around.

The biggest problem of Thailand is its own people and the almost complete absence of law recognition and enforcement.

A "rip off" society all the way down from the top? :whistling:   Mmmm.........

Taxi drivers are again still out of control.

Funnily enough I  commented to the wife over the festive season on how much the taxis had improved we had no issues travelling around Thailand (including several trips to the airport and back) no arguments over the meter, always turned on without prompt (Maybe we were lucky?)

Taxi drivers get a hard time but to be fair not all of them are out to rob you, there are good guys out there.

Used 5 taxi trips over the New Year holiday period. No problem. Every one used the meter, fare prices were all what I would expect. Not sure what some of you are doing to be treated like you are!!!

My experience as well.

I'm guessing most posting here wouldbt have been in a taxi for a long time, but can't miss up a chance to have a dig at Thai Taxis.
