BANGKOK: -- After passing major milestones such as the charter referendum, and with the general election starting to take shape, despite doubts about when it will take place exactly, Thailand will see the finale of the junta’s road map to its self-proclaimed “true democracy” this year.

While the major theme is to change politics for the better, the political scene seems to have a mind of its own and the year ahead is unlikely to see fundamental changes.

Critics have suggested there are prospects for mainstream politics to still be stuck in the whirlpool of organic-law writing for at least 10 more months and for the election promised for this year to grow more unlikely.

Democracy ? In Thailand? Isn't rule of law a pre-requisite for democracy?  Well if so then I seriously doubt democracy will be achievable in Thailand.

It's an easy job to be an analyst who is able to predict that there will be no election in 2017. plenty of TVF members could have qualified by doing the same prediction some time ago already. :)

Analyst are pretty much like the weather predictions, thy put it out there, if they hit

the target they will boast about it, if not, which is most of the time, they just

keep quiet. no analyst ever gone to jail for being wrong....

would need to reverse the referendum before there can be true democracy in thailand. cant see that happening. infact cant see the point of having elections. the will need to be delayed until yingluck is run out of town. can see big problems if she is not allowed to run, and it seems like she would win.

Yer... and that wouldn't be democratic... so there would have to be another coup :cheesy::cheesy:

I really do not get it If this is going to be a true democracy then just hold an election You dont need to write a lot unless there are a lot of

Things you cannot do

Then it is not a democracy

It's all a sideshow to take peoples' eyes and minds off the compete demolition of decades of democratic progress. No junta gives up power voluntarily. However, they can be persuaded to jump into the background of a faux-civilian government if enough civil society groups rattle their sabres, as happened in 2007.

Unfortunately, their BFF, the Democrats, lost that election, even after that junta went on TV, told people how to vote, and told them who wanted them to vote that way. To be honest, I don't think many people were listening.
