NAKHON PHANOM: -- A COURT has agreed to reopen the case of a former Sakhon Nakhon-based schoolteacher who served 18 months in prison for a 2005 hit-and-run crime that she did not commit.

Jomsap Saenmuangkhot’s retrial is set for January 16 at Nakhon Phanom Provincial Court.

She said: “I hope heaven will have mercy allowing the innocent to receive aid and remedial measures. I still believe that the court is just but my case in the past [which resulted to her being sentenced by a primary court to three years and two months for the crime] stemmed from mistakes by police officers and attorneys.

“I understand that the court didn’t visit the area to investigate the truth themselves but considered from the evidence reported to court. I hope that wrongdoers would get punished as per the course of justice.”

rtp  Thailand's worst  asset

Good luck to her

It's beyond scary that the only higher authority she can appeal to is ... heaven.

Why a retrial after she has been released as 'innocent'?

No mistakes made.  Just sheer laziness and incompetence by Thailand's finest.  How many more innocent people are sitting in Thai prisons because of lack of investigation?  She should sue them for everything she can.

Reopen the case and MAYBE get your innocence in that hit-and-run crime?
Is possible.

Hoping that justice will be done to a Royal Thai Police and Court Attorneys?
FORGET IT.

Be happy that you are free and can live the rest of your life.
Don't push your luck to far.

Life is cheap in Thailand.

What the heck is that?  Never heard of that kind of entity here before...

" stemmed from mistakes by police officers "

I have to agree. Set the lady free. If the trial proves her innocent put the police officers that were in charge of the investigation in jail for 18 months to show them the folly of their ways.

Justice is when the people who are responsible for this go to jail. But who you can trust in Thailand? Everyone has their price here. :(
