MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto on Wednesday said Mexico will seek to negotiate issues including trade, security and migration with the incoming U.S. administration of Donald Trump, but would not pay for a U.S. border wall.

Pena Nieto, speaking to an assembly of foreign diplomats, said he would continue to promote free trade integration in North America.

Mexico would invest in a more secure border but not a wall, he added, but the U.S. shared responsibility on immigration and should work to stop the southward flow of illegal weapons.

Mexico can increase its own border security forces and do more to detect tunneling under the border that usually begins on the Mexican side. Mexico could increaes arial surveillance on its side as well that would provide relief to American border surveillance costs.

The problem with Mexican security forces is that it seems only its navy can be depended upon to act professionally and avoid complicity with cross-border drug and trafficking. Mexico will need to reform its army and police forces to become bribe-resistent and that would be a long-term goal.

Not to worry, nothing of substance is going to happen.

Hmm Mexico may yet pay for the wall. It seems their massive oil field is in decline as is their natural gas production. They are counting on Trump to approve massive pipeline expansions into Mexico to carry natural gas (America has a surplus due to fracking) to the newly migrated American businesses. Might they build the wall in time to appease Trump? Stay tuned.

The USA should clean up its own borders first. Yes, the USA  is facilitating passage of thousands of illegal migrants  into Canada.

In one  small border town alone humdreds of illegals have poured in from the USA.

The Mexicans whould point out that the USA is a bad neighbor of Canada and is dumping its problems there. Mr. Trump, please stop facilitating the flow of illegals into canada.

The USA should just annex Mexico like some its Allies have done. After all the USA already occupies half of what was old Mexico in Spanish Day.

LOL.  Yeah, "open to talk" as long as the border remains completely porous, access to US markets remains completely unfettered, and US security aid is re-continued ('has been slipping in recent years due to human rights abuses).
