Coffeemaker, converter advice

Featured Replies

My travel voltage converter gave up the ghost this morning. I use it for my travel coffee maker that I bring from the states. It is  120v 60hz 800 watt.

I must have my coffee in the morning!

my research indicates that it may be difficult to find a quality step down transformer here in Bangkok or in Pattaya (I leave tomorrow afternoon)

I'm thinking about taking the MRT to Fortune IT Mall and Lotus Tesco to find a solution. Either buy a converter or a new coffee maker.

Am I on the right track?

Anyone have a travel coffee maker you want to sell today (Nana  BTS)?

Your room does not have a coffee maker?  Most, even low tier, seem to have these days.  Indeed high wattage converter would likely be hard to find and expect "travel" coffee maker might also.  I would ask hotel if they can provide first.  Failing that there is a coffee shop on just about every block.

Friend of mine had the same problem and went thru about a transformer a year before he finally gave up and bought a local machine.

Simple, self heating hot water kettles start at B200 and seem to work pretty well.  Mine has lasted three years.

There are a large variety of real coffee makers available here from about B1000 up to the price of a Buick.  Browse "Lazada" online for a good idea of what is available.

thanks for all your helpful suggestions.

I went to Home Pro and found the coffee maker on sale for 400 baht.  It's very basic, but it's 220 V. Problem solved. Now I can enjoy my mornings again.
