Pride week and parade returns to Bangkok after 11 years

Featured Replies

Fro the last parades here I remember seeing photos of barboys on cheap looking floats, dressed in shiny swimsuits, with the ever predictable drag queens running around.  Not sure if there were many everyday boring but gay people taking part.  That's what was exciting about Taipei's last parade, man that has really taken off - along with lots of progress on LGBTQAUAIAI rights.

I'm surprised they're doing it again and cynical me thinks the reason is some businesses figure they can make money on it.

That's how I always felt when I saw pics from previous parades....sponsored by boy and LB bars...it was weird seeing the boys dancing on the floats.....to me it didn't help things towards an understanding that gay people are regular people too...I think about my hometown, Portland OR, and how the parade is fun but also a community event filled with gay people or just people who support their rights.

I was in the first pride parades on the planet. Before any commercialism at all. But things change.

*** Important Update ***

We, at OUT BKK are deeply saddened by the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Therefore, out of respect of the national one year mourning period, and our love for the beloved late KING, we will be postponing Bangkok Pride to the end of the year. (Nov/ Dec)

Me too, in San Francisco. They were mostly pretty seedy, but Dykes on Bikes always went over well and my straight sister road with them.
