I am sure this subject has been covered before on Thaivisa, but I have not been able to trace exactly what I want. I did put this matter in the hands of a lawyer who apparently has done very little over the past four weeks - except ask for copies of my passport and work permit.

My work permit runs out this Saturday and I plan to retire. I know I need to change my visa from Non-Imm B to Non Imm O-A. What are the precise documents I need and what rules apply to each doc? I have the 800000 in my a/c. I will apply for a letter today. What else do I need, how up to date must the docs be, and how many photo copies will be required. As it is now a bit late in the day to get things organised I am beginning to panic a little and a detailed answer would be most appreciated.

You cannot change non immigrant visa categories without going out for a new visa. To get a OA visa you would have to return to your home country.

You can apply for a extension of stay based upon retirement at immigration with a non-b visa entry.

I think perhaps you have a extension of stay based upon working you applied for at immigration not a valid non- b visa. You can change the reason for your extension to one based upon retirement.

The 800k baht will have to be in the bank for 3 months on the date you apply for the extension based upon retirement. How old the letter from the bank can be depends upon the immigration offices you apply at. Some allow it to be up to a week old while others such as Bangkok immigration prefer it to be done on the same day apply but will accept one from the day before. The bank book will will need to be updated on the date you apply at many immigration offices.

When you change the reason for your extension you will need a letter from your employer stating your last day of work so that your current extension can be canceled on the date you apply for the extension based upon retirement.
