BANGKOK, 16 January 2017 (NNT) - The Department of Internal Trade revealed that January’s talks with China will yield a government-to-government agreement to ship another 100,000 tons of rice to China after the Chinese New Year.

Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade Duangporn Rodphaya revealed that Thailand will export the second batch of rice to China once the agreement has been reached. Up to 100,000 tons of rice will be transported to China around or after the Chinese New Year.

Duangporn expressed her confidence that the talks will conclude within the month of January as Thai officials are working to negotiate a price similar to the first batch.

Duangporn added that the second shipment may cost less than 400 US dollars per ton due to increased competition from other countries.
