What happens with missing passport?

Featured Replies

How bad is it if you're passport is stolen in Thailand due to the fact you have to do visa updates all the time?

For example, I'm from the U.K. and it could take weeks to receive a new passport.

what would happen if my passport went missing 7 days before I needed to visit immigration/Laos consulate?

cheers,

Fin

Re your last Q:  You could get an Emergency Passport/Travel Document and take that to Immigration to have your permission of stay transferred.

FYI, always a good idea to keep a copy of your passport in case of such happenings.

But, to start with, down to your local police station and make a report of the loss.  Then with that, to your embassy (or who ever provides the service) and apply for a replacement passport.

You would get a emergency travel document from the UK embassy.

See: https://www.gov.uk/emergency-travel-document

UK passports currently take 2-3 weeks from application to pick up.

If you are lucky you might not even need an emergency passport.

Thanks guys,

I was aware of the ETD.

I just didn't know it could be used to extend visa or leave the country to apply for new one.

always thought it was just to get you home, which wouldn't help if you wanted to stay.
