BANGKOK: -- A 59 year old woman who was attacked with a knife then set on fire in her home has finally died.

Srirat (no surname supplied due to the sensitive nature of the case) had wanted her daughter Sirikhwan, 29, to end a relationship with a man named only as "Sam", reports Daily News.

It is alleged that Sam went to her house, stabbed her then poured gasoline on her and set fire to her. The attack happened on October 1st last year.

Sirirat had been in hospital ever since but died on Tuesday.

Now her son Sorachai, 37, has called for justice after no arrest has been made. He claimed that "Sam", the son of an influential figure, is carrying on his life in the area of the attack as if nothing had happened.

He has been seen at entertainment venues living the high life.

In a latest development Sorachai said that he was contacted through an intermediary - a phu yai ban - to be asked to accept 20,000 for his mother's funeral expenses.

He believes that this offer came from Sam's influential father and is a way of paying money not to pursue the case.

He refused to accept it as it may have a bearing on how the case may proceed in the future.

Sorachai said that police told him previously they intended to seek charges of attempted murder. He now wants these upgraded to premeditated murder after his mother's death.

Sorachai was speaking to Daily News online reporters.

Let's hope this gets a ton of traction on Thai social media.

He sounds like just a local bigwig not anyone of national consequence. So it will just take the attention of someone higher up to suddenly get the wheels of justice (and Baht) moving.

The more I read these types of stories the more obvious it is that whatever walk of life they are from "Thais just don't have any morals or empathy" that's just a fact.

The charge may change, but the BIB's complete inactivity will not.

Who made the allegation that a particular person committed the criminal acts described - and based on what evidence? There's scant "facts" in the news report above, only hearsay and a claim made by a grieving relative of the deceased.  That's just not enough evidence or factual detail upon which police would be expected to act.

He sure has high hopes, when we saw the kind of justice the police's own was dragged under a Ferrari...

He needs a bit of Texas Justice, Why wait for the courts? Slowly apply the justice like a limb or a digit at a time.

Sickening!

How many more will go unpunished?

Don't keep yourself awake at night counting. Counting sheep would be easier. As soon as the word influential came into the picture everything came to a screeching halt. The 20,000 baht offered is about the best that he will do. I know that stinks but this is Thailand the roost of the elite.
