Keeping Computer Up To Speed.

Featured Replies

I have just had my desktop checked over by the local engineer, it is now running very fast compared to before.

Can anyone tell me what is the best way to keep my computer like that? Apart from CC Cleaner used regularly and defragment, should I buy an

upgraded version of some sort of cleaner that will keep my computer up to speed? Thank you.

When I set up a computer for myself I tend to:

  • Partition the HD into OS/Programs and Data partitions
  • Make sure everything is current and up to date
  • Create IMAGES of the two partitions
  • Create new IMAGES of the partitions when updates are applied

  • Recover back to the IMAGE when things go tits up

When Win10 first came out in PreView and then again in Official Release I probably had to recover the OS/Program partition three times each due to major issues. Each time I was back up and running within 15 minutes.

Otherwise, I download fresh versions of Malware Bytes, Spybot, etc, etc. to do scans when I suspect something has affected the machine and either clean it off, or if severe I recover to the partition IMAGE and update software where necessary.

What I tend not to do is stay with an OS that has 6+ years of patches and updates, or letting multiple applications add background tasks.

If you understand what's makes your computer 'slow' then you have a better chance of maintaining it.
