I would just like to thank the owners of DK Soulfood for the bout of food poisoning I received after buying a Lamb Doner Kebab from their place in Lamai.

Purchased at 4.50pm Tuesday 5th December.

It has taken me 6 days to recover from it.

Are these the same guys that just opened in Chaweng next to Coco's China House?

Hey.........well, I have to say, its a little bit your own faul........

Think about it.......where do they get the Lam from........how long time was it on the way to Samui........after the owner received it, how many weeks.......I mean how many people eat lam on Samui.......so ofcourse the sale is slow.....that means the keep the meat for a loooooong time........

I have the same problem here in Japan, when some restaurants try to sell froglegs etc.......not enought customers for that kind of food......so stay away from it............

However I still feel sorry for you.....hope you recover soon......

But then if he is not there all the time , God knows what the staff do with it.

Get well soon.

I bought a chicken kebab there once. Bloody awful. Chicken all dried up. Must have been going round and round for days. And they put the wrong sauce on it. Only went once. :o:D :D

Correct. The wife and myself go to a small family run Thai place on the ring road in Lamai. Go 2-3 times a week and have never been ill. Good Thai food.

Common sense should have told me to go somewhere the locals use. But I did think that the place looked clean and presentable. Looks can be so deceiving.

My partner had never used the place before so was unable to advise.

But I just wanted a kebab.

Interesting to hear that others don't rate the place too highly.

And sometimes you just want a kebab & as not many thais would be eating it, how could he know?

Sometimes you have to take the risk, it could have turned out to be the best kebab you ever had & then you would be on here raving about it. Sadly that wasn't the case but if every farang could eat thai food, every meal, 7 days pw then none of the other (good) western restaraunts on the island would be making any money :o

6 days of food poisoning means you probably lost some weight though, so go to a place you know is good & stuff yourself silly as a reward :D

Some of the best food I've eaten came from places the UK health inspectors would have shut down just based on a drive by inspection. Conversely some of the worst came from gleaming sqeaky clean establishments.

Best advice of the thread : Eat where the Thais eat, preferrably eating Thai food. :o

btw I thought only drunks ate doner kebabs. You know you must have been bladdered :D Saturday night when you wake up Sunday afternoon with kebab down your shirt, trousers and shoes. And really bladdered if you didn't take them off before getting into bed. :D:D:D

I certainly lost some weight. Soup and porridge have been my biggest indulgence since. I am looking forward to making up for some lost eating time.

I used to enjoy a kebab on the way home from work every now and then in the UK. No, I was not working in a pub.

kebab meat and chips is great.

As said , the small Thai places look awful but I have never had a problem with their food. Quick turnover of food and cooked at high temperatures. I think. Shrubbery, if you must eat Farang food try The Chippy opp. the Bauhouse, good cod and chips.

The bugers are OK . Frozen not fresh . Buns not fresh - Chips frozen and not good .

I had a bagel once - not fresh .

You were very brave to try a kebab - The same pieces of meat have been in the window for more than a month -

Good cheap places to eat in Lamai Elderado - Have a very cheap and good daily menu - 3 Choices or Willy"s next door ( just reopened ) I tried a Kobe steak last week - Very good - Imported from Australia !? but really does melt in your mouth - A bit expensive .

Eldorado? Get real ............. Heaps of salt & 40 Baht for small water. No wonder he is still going lmao.

dodgy kebab in lamai?

that'll explain the decrease in stray dogs. :o

Dogs left ,didn't like the houmos lmao.

I have my Kebab only in Deadbag - sorry - Bagdad.

Occasionally in Tehran, never in Kandahar!

There are Places in Germany, where even the Turks say the Kebabs are the Best!

And then Sh*t happens again and again.

I suffered Montezumas Revenge from a Place I used to eat Chicken on Rice often - never a Problem, but then... my ex' insisted it was the Sauce - she didn't have any.. no Problem!

I did - Ploblem..

Hi Kebab lovers...

I am a turkish citizen & would never ever eat döner kebap in fareast.

The Best Kebab's are in Germany, thats true, for sure not in Turkey or in Greece.

If the Kebab here is such bad, than not because of the 1 month old chicken-beef,

usual at the end of the Day, the restaurant owners (or these who manage these) use the Beef again and mix it with new beef, to make a new Kebab on, for the next day.

may be this would be not a problem in europe, where the temperature is not that high like here.

If someone wants to have a good part of the kebab, then ask for the roasted parts of the kebab, not the part under the roasted part, cause you never can now, is it grilled allready or not.

I Prefer saussages in 7-11, than eating a kebab here....

good luck,

Cheers,

Samui Rep

I have had a some very good kebabs in the Far East. However the best I have had were when I was living in Derby (UK).

Going back to my original post. It has taken me 10 days to recover from the SH*TE I had from

DK Soulfood in Lamai.

Have eaten at the one in Bang Rak and found the food to be of good quality and tasty. However a bit expensive (compared to local Thai food).

Well my advise is,if it's not thia food don't eat it without thinking about it put it this way have you ever seen a lamb running around samui? So where does the lamb come from, not to appealing a thought is it even if the owner say's he get's frozen lamb from where ever, what i mean is not to many places have a fridge freezer more like a ice mountain out back they top up everyday.

So just step back and think about it even if the munches are kicking in.

happy eating :o
