Good tips!  Soil preparation is key, don't short cut this if you have budget and materials availability. Contact Issan Aussie for info he posted on biological fungicide;l I have seen similar biofungicides available in ag shops in Chiang Mai. Root/crown rot(Phytophthora cinnamomi) is common so Grollies suggestions are important, to plant the root crown high, somewhat above the soil grade and provide good drainage. Don't let locals pile up soil or mulch to cover the root collar (flare of first lateral roots) or against the trunk wood. This area must be allowed to dry out between irrigation cycles. If it stays wet then crown rot conditions will prevail. Irrigation sprinklers, bubbler heads, drip emiters should not be set too close to root collar and stem. Irrigate the area where you want the roots to grow, as far and wide as possible to gather water and nutrients from the largest soil volume possible.  This is the tremendous advantage of planting in the ground with improved soil as opposed to containers -- As long as you manage the soil improvement and mulching continuously. Mulching helps retain soil moisture, suppresses weeds, adds to soil organic matter and enhances conditions for beneficial soil organisms.
