webfact
Air rage: Berserk Russian subdued on BA flight over Bangkok after toilet argument Picture: Sanook BANGKOK: -- A drunk Russian had to be subdued on a British Airways flight coming into Bangkok after a fight broke out over use of the toilet. But on landing the Thai police did nothing, it was claimed. Sanook.com reported that the BA flight towards the end of last week was about an hour from landing at Suvarabhumi airport. A drunk Russian tourist took a swing at a fellow passenger and had to be subdued by other passengers and crew. Sanook reported that witnesses had said the argument was over who would use the toilet first. They also said that when the flight reached Bangkok the Thai police did not come on board and arrest the Russian man as per international regulations. They reported that a half finished bottle of whisky was seen on the passenger's seat. The incident spooked other passengers on the regular service from London to the Thai capital on Britain's flagship airline. I'm sure the captain of the plane wasn't happy about this. I've seen them arrest people on the plane after we landed. Should have happened here. I've seen a Thai got into an argument with the flight attendant for being rude to him, he took a picture of the flight attendant. The flight attendant ask him to delete the picture, he wouldn't. The captain even came to speak with the passenger, passenger was escorted of the plane by security. I have no idea if the flight attendant was rude or not. The Bangkok Hilton typically houses drug dealers, murderers etc, and give the gentlemen is neither a drug dealer or murdererer why would the BIB put him in there ? One suspects this whole headline and story has been "sexed up" the berserk russian is most likey an irate Russian who argued with someone else who was going the toilet first and i am calling BS on the 1/2 bottle of whiskey on the seat, you dont get away with that stuff anymore, drinking your duty free on the flight
IMA_FARANG
I have seen it happen on a Singapore Airlines flight. Two German passengers on the flight with stopped in Bangkok before going on to Singapore were taken off the flight in Bangkok because they were drunk and got into a fist fight with a Singaporean businessman. I believe the Captain of the plane has to request the Thai police remove the people from his plane. if he decides not to make a complaint about the disorderly passengers, I don't believe the Thai police can do anything to remove the passengers. I believe it requires the Pilot to request the disorderly passenger be removed before the Thai police can act.

If you have ever flown on BA, LHR - BKK, you will know the flight crew are famous for disappearing for hours on end. If you have ever been to Russia, you will know the consumption of spirits to excess is a national pastime.
harrry
The law of registry of the plane is generally the law that applies. The police will requested by the captain remove the person. whether he is charged depends on the law of the country and whether no additional offences such as assulting police occur. Chances are it may have been his Russian traveling (and boozing) buddy. Pretty sure the Captain didn't need to stay late at the airport filing the extra paperwork needed for the Thai police to 'process' a couple of drunks that didn't do anything to cabin crew or anyone else. Gulfsailor
Aeroflot Russian airlines does not serve, nor allow alcohol to be consumed on some of their international flights. The flight from Moscow to Bangkok is one of such flights, and obviously for good reason. The only alcohol on board is probably in the cockpit. Thian
Just make drinking alcohol in planes and airports illegal. Last weekend in the 711 there was a farang arguing to the staff because he couldn't buy beer during those banned hours....He already stank from alcohol and gives all of us a bad name here. Maybe you're right. But I've been on flights where unruly passengers have been taken off by the Thai police before the doors are even closed. They tend not to muck about with flight security. Regyai
If the pilot really had the 'hump' he could divert to nearest airport rhereby guaranteeing large portions of police for the pax and swingeing likely ruinous financial burdens (all fight handling costs) on the troublemaker too

catinthehat
So does that mean that as there was no police intervention or report filed that this animal is free to continue his rampage of a holiday throughout Thailand? Hopefully any subsequent incident caused by him will end up being his last with an armed individual who will end his holiday antics forever. NO money in it for the cops. And far too much walking to the gate and back. And oh the paperwork to file a report.

It was a foreigner who, apparently, was acting like a buffoon. No one knows if the captain requested police assistance or if the incident warranted it. But hey let's focus the criticism on Thailand. Anyway BA is probably accustomed to drunks on board. We only blame things that happen or fail to happen in Thailand on Thais.... If anything it is likely most people would be very much sober after 10 hours in economy on BA, they certainly won't be giving you much to drink.
