JT this may give you a sense of how it is here.

Tourists (and others) need to learn when to shut up.

Thais are fiercely loyal to their country's superiority.

Lèse majesté- Thais hold the monarchy in the highest regard. Making a critical or defamatory comment about the royal family is punishable by a prison sentence of up to 15 years per offense. As an example, purposely tearing Thai bank notes, which carry an image of the King, may be considered a lèse majesté offense.

So you're basically saying I cant criticize a policy if I dont feel it is fair?

OK. How do I deal with contradictions? For example, you say something and the other guy says you are wrong, its not like that, it is like this. How can I use my judgement. I have been forbidden to visit Thailand under pain of arrest by the cops and rotting in police property without bail  by the Thai wife of an American who fled the country ten years back.

Stop acting like a drama queen - there is no "pain of arrest"

If you are seriously worried - go to Cambodia, Laos or Vietnam.

Realize you have no 1st Amendment rights in SEA - leave your opinions at the airport.

I am sorry, I am all of a panic because the Thai wife of this who has got all the letters of the alphabet in her name sounds authoritarian. But going to a neighboring country is just like sleeping with my neighbor's wife because 'my wife' is not available. Why would I wanna do that? Over a Thai wife who checks her husband's emails! Duh!
