Pattaya to start pulling down North, Beach roads billboards

PATTAYA:--Pattaya will soon start pulling down dozens of billboards, some put up by businesses as far back as the 70s.

City Councilman Saksit Yaemsri chaired a Jan. 23 meeting on the plethora of signs and billboards following a survey of North and Beach roads.

The study found that North Road has 57 billboards while Beach Road has 27. Of those, 30 companies were found to have erected their signs illegally.

Saksit said many of the firms had been doing so for years, with one advertising since 1979.

Many of the billboards are too large or obstruct views for motorists or street and road signs.

Why pick on those two roads, the whole of Thailand is a mess of billboards!!! road junctions being the worst!!!

They gotta start somewhere or are you suggesting the should employ thousands of more people and hit all roads/billboards throughout the country simultaneously ?

I'm surprised they are not out in front of a sign pointing a finger,

to illustrate what could or will happen to an owners precious billboard sign,

if they don't take them down themselves.

After all, isn't getting media coverage what it's all about?

So as to make it appear they are doing their jobs,

and making improvements to Thailand,

in any small way they can think of.

While forgetting about the bigger,

arguably more important matters.

Those will be saved for the day,

far into the future; if ever...?

When they have nothing petty to improve upon.

They should do something about the illuminated billboard outside Nongnuch Garden. It's so bright at night it's almost blinding as you drive towards it.

Ditto for the one at the intersection of Thepprasit and Thappraya Roads.  If they would put some sort of light sensor to dim it after sunset, it would possibly be okay, but some of the largely white background screens are amazingly bright.  I was in a condo in View Talay 2 and it lit up the room at night!

Why not? A great new opportunity for hundreds of committees to be formed across the nation with the usual free travel, overnight stays for conferences and seafood buffet lunches. Just think of the job opportunities for family and friends and commission payments available to committee members by covertly legalising the illegal signboards rather than removing them.

Can I be on the committee that decides how many committees there should be?

A construction company put up a sign about 20 metres from where a minor road joins Sukhumvit.  This effectively hid all oncoming traffic from those wishing to cross.  Two nights ago at about 5 past 10pm a farang gust of wind blew it down (so I've heard.)
