'Restore my liberty' says Julian Assange

LONDON: -- WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has made a fresh plea to the UK and Swedish authorities to "restore" his liberty.

He has been living inside the Ecuadorian Embassy in London for more than four years because he fears he will be extradited to the US.

Mr Assange, who has been questioned about a sex allegation in Sweden, spoke out a year after a UN legal panel ruled he should be allowed to walk free.

"Turn yourself in" says many.  The charges will easily be swept away.  Man up.  Face the charges.  Even Manning who did far worse is now free.

Self inflicted @ £millions to the taxpayer :(

There is a lot of circumstantial evidence to suggest that both Assange and the Donald work for the same man - maybe now he can feel safe to step out of the embassy.

It is like a join the dots exercise without the numbers to guide you - but blind faith will see you right.

I also thought that it had been arranged for the Swedish prosecutor/police to interview him again in the embassy. Did that happen?

I thought the same thing - and would also be interested to learn whether that ever happened.

The whole fiasco is ridiculous.

It would be so easy for the Swedish authorities to 1) interview Assange in the Ecuadorian embassy 2) give written assurance that he wouldn't be extradited to the US.

Thanks for the link which was much appreciated, even though I'm still unclear as to whether Assange was interviewed properly by Swedish prosecutors and the outcome!

Come on RR give us a break. Next thing it will be Trump (yes the democratically elected President of the United States of America) to blame for the flooding in S Thailand.

We we all know you are a clever man albeit a Trump hater but give us a break from it please

They can't assure that until they know if the US will send an extradition request and if so on what basis.

Yeah right, all a conspiracy to keep Hilary the Innocent out of office.

What next? Assange will reveal the darkest secrets of Sturgeon being Merkel and Hollande's love child?

Good point.  He's only wanted for questioning.  But maybe a law was broken because he didn't show up?  I don't know.

Wonder why you say that Manning did far worse? After all Manning was exposing war crimes, while Assange actively helped Trump win the election.

Assange just exposed some emails. What was done with them was out of his control. How people processed them is out of his control. How people behaved as a result is out of his control. If people are so easily swayed that is their fault.

Notice that the Hillary cartel NEVER denied the validity of all the emails? They just went ape shit crazy about who the messenger was as a smoke screen and from your post, it looks like some people fell for that strategy.

huh? Is Sweden now a US colony?

Why wouldn't a sovereign nation be able to guarantee one of its own citizens not be extradited?

Assange is NOT Swedish. He's Australian.

And yes, Sweden has caved in and followed orders from the almighty USA on this case.

okay.. anyway none of these arguments are reasons why Sweden would not be able to give a guarantee that it wouldn't extradite Assange to the USA.

Feel free to walk out of the Embassy at any time - it's Assange's choice.

The Embassy in London is not in the USA. Sweden is not part of the USA. He cannot be detained by either country by simply leaving the embassy only by the UK.

But with freedom comes responsibility and accountability - aspects Assange refuses to face.

Maybe Turkey will arrest him for releasing the private medical records of every woman in their country?  A disgusting thing to do.  This is the problem with Wikileaks.  Just mass releases of data with no vetting.  A more focused approach would be better.

As said earlier, unanswered as of yet, how can they guarantee that if they don't know of any charges yet?

Yes the whole world is caving in to the Elephant in the room and now you have CAFTA. The elephant in the room has replaced the Donkey But elephants or donkeys you get the same coming out of the rear end.

why is the knowledge of charges important for giving a guarantee to not extradite Assange to the USA ?

Sorry, this is getting beyond stupid.

How can Sweden  guarantee they won't extradite him to the US when the first thing Sweden will do when they get him back to Sweden will be ....extradite him to the US?

He's been questioned twice already in Sweden by the police and once in the UK and still no actual rape charges pressed ...bit odd that really!

Another clue is how the Swedish police were completely disinterested in the bogus rape allegations until the Americans started to show interest.  Another weird thing is how the UK spent £15m( & counting ) guarding the embassy in case he left....I mean when has the UK ever spent £15m on a real rape case never mind one where no charges have been pressed & the allegations are so extremely flimsy they would never fly in a UK courtroom.
