Digital Ministry to turn Thailand into regional digital center

BANGKOK, 7 February 2017 (NNT) – The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has resolved to turn Thailand into the region’s digital center over the next 2 years under the Thailand 4.0 agenda.

Minister of Digital Economy and Society Pichet Durongkaveroj, reporting after a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak, announced that over the next 2 years, his office will work to make Thailand the region’s digital center. The goal is to be achieved by supporting the projects of TOT, CAT Telecom and Thailand Post.

TOT is to implement a civil-state Internet program connecting all of the nation’s 24,700 villages to the world wide web this year. Meanwhile, Thailand Post will develop the nation’s E-commerce capabilities to allow for 24 hour a day trade.

CAT Telecom meanwhile, is to install submarine cabling to connect Thailand to its regional neighbors and establish it as ASEAN’s Internet Hub.

The company is also to set up a Digital Park in Chonburi province where all of the country’s information technology needs will be satisfied.

I am setting up a new WiFi hot spot with no password required here at my house.

I am Khao Takiab's new digital center.

Maybe you should be worrried about having the fastest internet connection to the whole rest of the world, not just ASEAN countries.

Digital 4.0 hub you say? A ministry and committees? Innovation and smart this and that? Reform, even?

For a moment you almost had me fooled that it wasn't a lumbering, overly-centralized, top-down bureaucratic government led by geriatric know-nothings whose brains are permanently stuck in 1952.

The word "hub" in this sense caters for an infantile fantasy that Thailand is the centre of something.

The CAT investment in underwater cables is a long due piece of required infrastructure that better connects Thailand to neighbouring countries and the rest of the world.

Money saving tip:
Burma, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia are your regional neighbors.
It's not necessary to install submarine cabling to connect Thailand to its regional neighbors.
Landlines are a lot cheaper.:jap:

But the submarines have been ordered with cable unrollers mounted on the back.
