Police to increase security on Makha Bucha Day and Valentine's Day

 

BANGKOK, 8 February 2017 (NNT) - Deputy National Police Chief Pol Gen Chalermkiat Sriworakhan has instructed police nationwide to set up checkpoints in an effort to prevent crimes ahead of Makha Bucha Day and Valentine’s Day. 

During a video conference, Pol Gen Chalermkiat told police units across the country to follow the Royal Thai Police’s guideline in dealing with criminal activities. More alcohol and weapon checkpoints are expected to be set up this year. 

The police are also going to be looking for suspects in unsolved crimes and patrolling in risk-prone areas to ensure people’s safety. 

Pol Gen Chalermkiat also urged parents to keep an eye on their children and discourage them from engaging in illegal activities. 

Alcohol sales will be banned from 12 am on February 11th to 12 am on February 12th which is when Makha Bucha Day is celebrated.

12am is confusing.

"Certain" means Alcohol Ban. If the rules same as in the past, Sunday is a normal business day for entertainment venues.

Let's say ban on Saturday because Makha Bucha is on Saturday.

 

So is alcohol banned on Valentin'e Day as well? It would be disappointing if it was as it might prevent many new relationships being formed in beer bars and the usual following of the pleasurable tradition of exchanging gifts.

Amazing, a thread about a regular alcohol sale restriction (and one that doesn't exist) and 50% of the posters so far are pedantically discussing whether it starts at midnight or not when the correct timing is perfectly obvious.

Makha Bucha is on SATURDAY.

 

Try this, one second past midnight on Friday (i.e. it's then Saturday) through to 23.59:59 the same day.  It's not rocket science.

00.00 or 24:00!

Why not tell: the whole Saturday? This is 24 hours and that's it. To refer on Friday or Sunday is confusing.

Jeez...   You're right, it is so confusing and so difficult to check what day Macha Bucha is celebrated on.   Suppose I'm risking a suspension now, here we go...

They are trying to tell you, not well, that alcohol will stop being served at midnight Friday. So go early on Friday, BF, and leave. Saturday is dry. Alcohol can be served after midnight Saturday.

Makha Bucha Day is by no means the only "Be Kind To Your Liver" day that exists in the Thai calendar - there are 4 more:-

 

Visakha Bucha Day, which in 2017 falls on Wednesday 10 May

Asalha Bucha Day, which in 2017 falls on Saturday 8 July

Khao Pansa Day, which in 2017 falls on Sunday 9 July
Awk Pansa Day, which in 2017 falls on Thursday 5 October

 

And, for the benefit of those who find time-deciphering an overwhelmingly formidable challenge, the alcohol bans run from 00:00:01 minus 1 second until 23:59:59 plus 1 second on each of the days in question.
