National Reform, Strategy, and Reconciliation Committee to begin work soon

BANGKOK, 9 February 2017 (NNT) - Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said the structure of the Committee on National Reform, Strategy and Reconciliation will be similar to that of the cabinet.

According to Gen Prayut, what sets the committee apart from the cabinet is its roles in mobilizing government projects and developing a master management plan for the new government. The committee consists of several groups of academics and members of the private sector.

Defense Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan has instructed the Royal Thai Armed Forces, provincial governors and police to survey people’s opinions on the reconciliation process. He added that political parties will be urged to make an agreement in an effort to prevent future conflicts.

Meanwhile, the National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA) is set to propose 27 urgent reform imperatives to the Committee on National Reform, Strategy, and Reconciliation. The NRSA is keen to push for a reform in areas regarding the public sector, human development, the economy, and basic infrastructure.

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-Ngam claimed that social inequality, corruption, and business bribery are issues that need to be solved quickly in order for the country to be more competitive in the global stage. He said the government had already amended 213 laws to ensure that these problems will no longer exist in the Thai society.

The deputy prime minister added that the revision process of the draft constitution will be completed on time or by February 18th. Once the new constitution is enforced, he said, it will take approximately one year for the general election to be held.

How does no more military interference in civilian government sound ?   How about due process for handling disputes instead of soldiers taking to the streets ?  Curious what the average, terrified Thai will say during the polling process.  Wonder if it will be similar to the Dusit Polls.

Common  Guys  "He said the government had already amended 213 laws to ensure that these problems will no longer exist in the Thai society."

These problems will always exist Just because you pass a law does not mean that simply stamps out the problem Enforcement is the key

and from my 15 plus years living here in Thailand enforcement of laws is sporadic and spotty and after a 3 to 6 month period when a new

law comes into existence it is forgotten in time and Life goes on as if nothing happened

I do not think things will change here in Thailand unless there is a real effort to change the culture of corruption not just enact laws
