Ministry of Commerce to boost exports proactively

BANGKOK, 10 February 2017 (NNT) - The Ministry of Commerce will develop an export plan for each region of the country under a proactive approach this year to boost Thai exports.

According to Commerce Minister Apiradee Tantraporn, the Ministry of Commerce will seek cooperation from public and private agencies in developing a plan that is in line with regional capacity.

As for export destinations, the Ministry of Commerce will focus on removing obstacles in a logistics process for Thai exporters who export their goods to ASEAN nations. Retail and convenience stores in China and ASEAN will also be urged to consider placing more Thai products on their shelves.

A business matching program will be set up to help Thai manufacturers find their potential Chinese importers and vice versa.

To attract American importers, the Ministry of Commerce will rigorously promote products that are in line with the American safety standards through retail stores in the US while making sure that the manufacturers of these items comply with the labor law.

Meanwhile, African importers will be invited to Thailand to survey and choose the products that are in high demand for their home countries. The Ministry of Commerce will also try to promote the export of auto parts and food products to African nations.

Apiradee said her ministry maintains this year’s export growth at 3%, adding that the growth will be achieved with cooperation from both public and private sectors.

I seem to recall last year the PM and his entourage visited a number of tinpot African and Middle East countries trying to drum up export business. Probably trinkets and out-of-date rice. Seems now like that was a bit of a failure.

He also went to catch up with his old mates in Russia and China hoping for some export business to come Thailand's way. I expect he was given a lecture about how international trade cuts both ways and so instead of coming home with export orders he came home with a military gleam in his eye and some whacking great invoices for deposits on tanks and submarines.

Hmmm really are not all the export items up to snuff??? All for one and one for all should be the motto here.
