So the date of my retirement is quickly approaching on 23 February 2017. We have prepared and are ready for the move to Lahansai Buriram. This is where we plan on starting and will travel extensively inside Thailand the first year or two.  I will take any advise/words of wisdom and derisive comments that anyone cares to provide.

Lahan Sai is a wonderful community. My Thai wife and I have a farm house out on the farm (not a village) about 9 km. from Lahan Sai and frequent the town for supplies, the Saturday evening market for veggies and other eats and to run into local Thai friends. Although I only live here about 3-4 months of the year (I'm from Harlem, USA), I always look forward to the extreme swing from the chaos of NYC to the settled and naturalness of the farm. I much more enjoy the rural farm areas and it's genuine Thai people than the bustle of Bangkok and the calamity of the more popular resorts. Although, as mentioned, the more isolated beaches and resorts are beautiful for a visit. Enjoy.

Greetings!

Buriram is a cool place and lots to see and do in itself.Having taken train journeys all over Thailand the Bangkok to Buriram is one of my favourite because of the fab scenery on the way! Lots of different places to see with other trains out of Buriram. So would highly recommend to use the trains where possible as so much more to see!

Don't worry the excitement will soon pass and be replaced with utter amazement at the every day stupidity you will see.

I take it you mean mainly on the roads, yes, that is definitely the case.

Different strokes for different folks. As for myself, I love Issan. I originally wanted to live near the sea, in particular Prachuap Kirikhan. I did travel extensively around Thailand, top to bottom, east to west. I eventually ended up in a scenic area of Loei province. That was more than twelve years ago. I did spend quite a bit of time in a village called Phnom Pai but Loei won out mainly because of the beautiful mountain areas.

Advice......avoid Buriram. It's a small town that has delusions of grandeur...not helped by that prick Nevin who believes he's a local God.

Glad I left that tinpot town.

Of course, just my humble opinion....each to their own.

Not one thing wrong with buriram , if you not get on with someone dose not mean the town has a problem.

i Keep to my self and my thai when I am in town.

keep away from those so called pricks and you will not have a problem.

i understand you as well , but if you not  hang around with f??? Wits you will be ok .

He is referring to Newin Chidcob, a Thai politician from Buriram.

And your presence the exact reason I left the horrible place.....your response typifies that. Full of falang who believe it's a glorious big city in Isaan....or rather the number one city in Isaan.

You are 5 years behind Udon Thai, Korat and Khon Kaen

None of those places offer much do they?

I cannot for the life of me understand why someone would choose to live out in the sticks instead of Bangkok.

I guess to live out there you need to be a pretty anti-social person who doesn't like having fun with lots of friends.

How many friends do you have living nearby?

How many times a week do you go out and have fun with your friends?

Do people get together for dinner parties or BBQ's at each other's houses?

From what I've read it seems that most of the people living in the sticks hardly do any socialising.

What is public transport like?   Can you stand at the side of the road and get a meter taxi?   Can you call an uber?
