A Thai shopkeeper has gone online to complain about foreign tourist thieves stealing from her shop and other stores at a popular beach.

The poster of the Facebook rant against tourists suggested that the police do nothing because they are foreigners.

Her comments were accompanied by a video of a Western woman and a friend caught on CCTV stealing clothes from her shop on January 7th.

The post from the Ao Nang, Krabi shop owner was shared by thousands from the "Phan Lan Clip 2" fan page. Half a million people viewed the Westerners brazenly looking around then stealing.

The unnamed poster said that police have done nothing. She said that both her and other shop owners in the area have suffered multiple thefts at the hands of foreigners. And it happens every day, she
claims.

Pointedly she said: "When Thais do something a little bit wrong everyone condemns them. But these people are doing this every day and no one seems to care".

She said she posted the video to bring to people's attention that many foreigners are not good people.

She added: "The police don't arrest these foreigners. Are they worried more about the image of the country?".

She said that the woman or women in the video had stolen an item of clothing and a necklace from her shop. Despite the CCTV being clear enough to show the tattoos of those responsible they were not arrested and had probably left the country by now, she added.

Many foreigners are not good people? About as accurate as farang Thai-bashers. Just brush everyone with same tarnished brush. Sheesh!

Quality thieves please. That was cumbersome.

Is crime passport specific or, just in this instance,  a perverse addiction to shoplifting.

Here's a tip ladies, say you were drunk, you have gambling debts to pay, you were fighting with husband....these seem to work for locals.

Shoplifting and theft of merchandise from shops is a world wide epidemic and a crime

that most police  around the world pays very little attentions to it as being

a petty crime,

The merchants themselves have to be more vigil, deploy measures to minimize theft

and add a % to their item's rice as a pilferage and loss cost....

How hard up do you have to be to steal clothing worth a few hundred Baht?

Money to fly half way around the world but then be on such a tight budget that you can't afford to buy yourself anything.

The video reminds me of another video posted here sometime during the last 12 months. A young pair of caucasian girls who were sitting at the counter in a bar/restaurant. One of them was recorded taking food off of customers's plates.

Cheap, cheap, cheap...

In Thailand, the law courts see theft as a very serious offence, often meting out sentences to guilty parties, far more severe than somebody taking another person's life.

If a thief gets caught here and prosecuted, if it is done during the hours of darkness, as opposed to during daylight hours, the sentence is so much more severe !

I see many farngs complaining online about the Chinese or Indain Tourists invading Thailand and are just cheap charlies unlike the " classy and quality high-spending farangs"! Bullshit! I see many Chinese and Indain Tourists actually spending and buying luxury items ta Gaysorn, Emquartier, Paragon, Central Embassy but not farangs......they might be there in their cheap garb.....but just looking around or maybe trying to steal!

Everybody is their own person some good some bad. In a shop selling to tourists then most of the thieves will be tourists and in a shop selling to Thais the thieves will be ties.  Ninty nine percent of nations are Ok there are very few where criminality is the normal way for everybody.

Look I know the OP has the video but I also have it on youtube. The quality is excellent. As many foreigners browse Thaivisa I would like to post this copy as I can see this much easier and it fills my entire phone screen. Much better for identifying the culprits.

Yup, bad hombres - a whole lot of 'em.  :coffee1:

If it's happening daily, which I don't necessarily believe, then why not use one of the staff to look at the cctv cameras live? With the culprits already detained I'm sure the BIB would show some interest.

She is complaining about stealing farang?

Suppose many farang are visiting her shop, buying things, paying for things.

Would she still have a shop without farang customers?

If not, either accept your losses or do something about it by yourself.

Try it out, shop owner, no farang allowed in this shop.

And of course, Thai don't steal.

Nor other Asians, only farang.

Shoplifting is a bane for shops, everywhere in he world.

Don't rely on the police, do something about it yourself.

The same shop owner could well be selling copy name material/goods so its hard to know who to feel sorry for. Many shops have 2 prices on items, one in thai so many farang cannot read it. Its usually the shop-s/owners who try to screw anyone who walks in, that seem to complain the loudest ands most about dishonest potential customers. She could hire a helper or 2 to help customers and it may reduce her losses  enough to pay them a living wage.

You'd think face recognition could be put to use every one has there mug shot taken on arrival.  They would only need one or two to be caught and thrown in a stinking Thai jail for a few days. I bet this women was shiting as passing through immigration on the way home.

A few days! You're having a laugh. A British women who stole 1 bottle of shampoo from boots in Pattaya is doing 2 years in prison. Eating fish head soup and losing all her teeth due to malnutrition.

Seems like the thief stuffed the garment in her umbrella.

Sadly, the shop owner might want to invest in RFID's, or fake ones to stop the steeling, should be hurting business.

It's easy fixed.  no bags allowed passed security.  They all go into cubby holes, you're given a tag for your bag, and you just carry your wallet inside.

Very sad to see, of course. Who knows what is going on in the head of these ladies? Yet, maybe they are not as rich as we think they are. Yes, there are in Thailand, but Thailand is not like going to Monte Carlo or London. Right? If they are from the East-Block countries, then even more reasons that they might not be so wealthy. Still as optad mentioned,...

I would not believe Optad, but I know of this story that made me believe. It is an interesting story because it muddies the water a little and yet clarifies things a little as well.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Svend_Robinson#Admission_to_theft_and_end_of_political_career

It does happen and no one in that country would have thought it was ever possible. This guy was squeaky clean before. His whole political career (and a legitimate shot at being even a Prime Minister for a ring he could easily afford on his salary).

" Despite the CCTV being clear enough to show the tattoos of those responsible they were not arrested..."

How fortunate for us, normally one would have to go to a bowling alley to meet women of their stature.
