I do not dispute that the number of days were limited to 90/180, but you are being pedantic when saying entries weren't limited. 

 

The sole reason for the rule was to stop people living in Thailand that were doing perpetual 30 day back to back visa exempt entries.

 

Here's the important bit ... They decided to limit the number of 30 day back to back entries to 3.

 

Rather than specify a 3 entry limit they set the number of days to 90 so that they didn't overly affect genuine frequent visitors using the scheme.

 

Setting the number of days to 90 had the effect of limiting "visa runners" to 3 entries.

 

Pedant away.
