Cooking string

Featured Replies

Recipes like stuffed pork loin require tying up. What sort of string is needed & where can you buy it? Presumably standard string from Tescos is going to contain toxic elements unsuitable for cooking.

Would toothpicks be an option or are they toxic as well? I know we put them in our mouths but would sticking them in an oven be dodgy?

i have used tesco's balls of string the past 9yrs.

Toothpicks are fine.  However, count them and make sure you retrieve them all after cooking.

Dental floss (unwaxed) is a good substitute for string.

However, any undyed, 100% cotton string is fine.

I confronted this a few years back, never did find anything locally, ended up buying some on trips back to the US.

I'm sure it must be available somewhere, but I gave up

Try looking in the dept selling the cooking gear. More specifically the area around the storage/roasting bags

I bought some white string in Foodland after the butcher told me that he used it to tie up meet.
