PM once again asks media not to instigate conflicts

BANGKOK, 20 February 2017 (NNT) – Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has once again pleaded with the media to foster social reconciliation and unity.

Gen Prayut has urged all media outlets to adhere to journalism ethics and standards, saying that there have been many news reports unfairly criticizing the work of the government and omitting factual information, that in turn leads to public misunderstanding.

He said the country’s problems are being fixed and that Thailand is going through a reform transition that once finished will see democracy fully restored.

The prime minister pointed out that many news agencies, mostly on social media, passed unfair judgments on the government and the National Council for Peace and Order with intent to instigate conflicts and disturb the rhythm of the reform process.

He said the nation today is more peaceful, the economy is thriving, and foreign investments are flowing in despite the global economic fluctuations.

A thin-skinned leader who doesn't like independent investigative journalism, who abhors criticism, who is way in over his head & out of his depth/competency, and who is unusually fond of grandiose expensive white elephants (submarines/walls) .... sounds like someone else I know

Maybe they should play the Lego song on loud speakers all over the country over and over again. In Thai of course. Rewrite it a little and say that someone else wrote it. Someone important of course.

The precursor?
We've asked you several times not to, but you still continue criticising us, so as a consequence...

Master P jumping on the " fake news" bandwagon which is funny cos him and Trump are getting more alike each day.

This fragile person, the self installed Prime Minister of Thailand, never talks in specifics as to what contributions his government is making.  How about the coal fired power plant in Krabi ?   You get VERY little sympathy from toppling an elected government, and then whine about how badly you are being treated.

"...social reconciliation and unity..." on MY terms !!!

The epitome of a spoilt brat.

One can only imagine what he was like as a kid.

Is all of that criticism unfair and non-factual, or is there some you could explain without blushing?

Maybe safe strategy would be to simply quote Garrison Keilor and call it news: " Welcome to Lake Wobegon, where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average."

At least he didnt accuse the media of making up false news. He makes a valid point though the media are only interested in reporting and sensationalizing the bad stuff. :post-4641-1156694005:

It seems much of the news reports criticizing the work of the government focuses on what sometimes appears to be stupid and poorly thought through policy decisions. Then there is the reporting of extravagant government claims about "they are gunna do this and what they are not gunna do that" when in fact they do little or nothing or do the opposite and go over the top and then are deservedly mocked. e.g. fixing corruption, hunting down Dhammachayo.

The PM should think more about doing something that deserves praise rather than censuring the media for reporting the truth. I am sure the media would have some nice things to say about the PM 's government if he did something about reducing the road death toll and fixing all that is wrong with the education system.

Tell me about the good stuff then!          Preferably on the back of a postage stamp.

If your referring to your governments actions on the mad monk affair its best you say nothing it only makes a bad situation worse. Methinks your adding more fuel to the fire to get your media suppression bill passed and not much else. Facebook etc. have let the genie out of the bottle and all your media suppression is for naught. Your computer crimes act well thats another story. You can hide some of the truth from some of the people some of the time but  you cannot hide all the truth from all the people all of the time.

Yes I am, it happens quote a lot on discussion forums. In this case perhaps not entirely reasonable given the regime's track record order in these matters!

Incidentally, how do you manage to always post in my free periods - do you have a copy of my timetable?

Not their job sir. They should print or broadcast the news not rebroadcast your opinions.

Indeed - only certain, and you can probably guess who, Shin enthusiasts condemn any speculation about the Shins and demand links to past comments, research, independent statistics to support the merest whiff of negativity commented on their heroes.

Not you, btw.

Your timetable, interesting :-) 555! The world is watching.

Of course, removing a democratically-elected government with the aid of tanks and guns and replacing it with a bunch of military wannabe's with no idea about running a country or an economy could not be considered instigating conflict.  That's something, the military believes, that ordinary Thais appreciate once every few years. It's good for the country. Independent thinking is dangerous for Thai citizens.
