Tension high as 10-day siege continues with communication signals in and around compound cut off.

THE controversial Dhammakaya Temple has hit back strongly at the government after authorities yesterday blocked mobile-phone signals and the Internet in the monastery’s vast compound.

With a court-issued warrant to search the 2,100-rai (336 hectares) complex in Pathum Thani set to expire at midnight, the government has been on the defensive after failing to arrest the temple’s former abbot Phra Dhammachayo.

Why do you need internet in a temple?

To watch porn and play poker on line one would guess, as from what is being

portrait in the media of those monks, they do anything else but the truly and

devotedly meditating and seeking nirvana....

You forgot the multiple transfer of funds around overseas banks, drug deals and yes of course booking all the premium/business class flights ( normal economy it seems is not good enough) for those so called monks to travel around "spreading their good word" or more like spreading their ill gotten gains so it will be harder to trace.  Watched the display at the x-ray / bag search once in Don Muang airport. Now considering that real Buddhist monks are not supposedly to touch money,  then the 4 bundles of cash in the Monks bag displayed on the monitor must have been for paper weights perhaps ?

Why do they need cellphones and the internet anyway? Shouldn't they be communicating on the plane of enlightenment?

But to be frank, so far I haven't seen a single enlightened individual in this whole charade anyway, only a lot of greedy, ignorant, inept and really really stupid people. On both sides.

In response, temple communication chief Phra Sanitwong Chareonrattawong told a press conference the move was an “over-reaction” from the authorities. He said it would affect not only monks and disciples but also residents in the surrounding areas.

He said all people should be allowed equal rights and liberties.

He said the action was an out-of-line measure that reflected authorities’ fear of the truth and its desire to muzzle the temple.

“The government should be open-minded to let people hear information from both sides and made a decision for themselves,” he said.

The temple that blocked certain press because they showed the wrong pictures,

is now making a statement to be open-minded to let people hear information from both sides and made a decision for themselves.

All we monks do is okay because we want to protect .................  ( not sure if I can write that all down without getting problems).

An extraordinary and expensive charade (diverting resources/manpower from lethal threats) given that the man is long gone.

he is there, but you cannot see him, remember....he's invisible.
