ATTA pins hope on new tourist market

BANGKOK, 27 February 2017 (NNT) - The Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA) plans to diversify the tourism industry by targeting a new group with high purchasing power, pursuing a new market with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

ATTA Vice President Surawat Akkharaworamat has disclosed that the ATTA will discuss with the TAT a plan to promote tourism among a new group of tourists, with a plan to tailor all services to their needs. The reservation of tourism products and services will still be managed through travel agencies or hotels.

The tailor-made travel services are constantly burgeoning among Chinese and Japanese tourists who seek unconventional experiences and travel in small groups who prefer to travel privately. The programs can be adjusted according to their needs and these groups are high spenders than the free independent travelers, with a higher purchasing power by about 50 percent.

However, the ATTA would like the TAT to diversify the pattern of tourism roadshows to accommodate the changing behaviors of travelers.

"unconventional experiences"

Observing at first hand Thailand's status as World Number 1 for congestion;

Necklace snatching in Pattaya;

Tours of factories producing fake branded goods;

Photo shoots of all police on inactive duties - including deserted police stations;

Video recording of police collecting brown envelopes on the first day of every month;

please feel free to add to the above.

I was always told to take care of what you already have first.

How stupid .

This year i plan to spend half as much as i normally do.

No problem, locals will spend three times what they can actually afford.

The goose laying the golden eggs is - dead - I'm afraid.

The top spending Japanese, Chinese, Indian and other tourists of means are used to easy travel and quality products. See Europe, where the average spending per tourist is manyfold of what the cheapies do here.

Land at Swampy and bang - 90 minutes queue at the Immigration, officially explained with the imminent closing of a runway (as if that would make sense). Unfriendly, grouchy immigration officers, a taxi system dripping of bureaucratic corruption, the racist look of Thais towards all "alien" - a perfect mix.

Visit the nature of Walking Street, feed fish (most likely with beard sold by the boat boy) and you end up in jail, backpackers on Koh Tao be warned of all those dangerous Burmese boys as mistrials don't exist in Thailand or buy property for an experience of a lifetime. Also don't buy fake goods as this makes Thai people bad and Thais go only and straight away for the originals.

Get all those possibly weed-smoking clowns out of TAT and ATTA; open the market internationally, clean up the system and then queue for tourism in, say 10 - 15 years from now again, because that's the time it will take you! Bad news is, that it might be definitely too late - Thailand had its chance 30 years ago with "Amazing Thailand" but, as said, that was 30 years ago!

< travel in small groups who prefer to travel privately >

this way of moving about still does not imply a grossly increased spending character. Moreover, "small groups", "privately" etc. automatically implies it is just a handful of people; revenues can be siphoned off much more easily coz you got the guys fully under your control...!

The lack of any kind of foresight, greed and corruption, have cost this country dearly over the last 3 or 4 decades, and now over the last few years, with the upsurge in Social Media, all of Thailands  short falls are coming to light on  a global stage, because there are no corners too hide in any more, and if something stinks, then whole world is aware of it in just 5 minutes.

Trying to place a Bandaid over a festering sore that has wet skin all around it, is impossible, it just will not stick, and the sore will just keep getting more infected.

The kind of Target Tourists of this new initiative, that spend highly, DO NOT travel in small groups, and certainly would not expose themselves to the Thailand  experience, but would prefer to keep the Gold necklace on madams neck and all pieces of their anatomy. intact, by visiting Countries where they are welcomed.

Many countries such as the UK, France, Germany, and Italy ( to name a few ) all have these kind of travelers in abundance because it is where they feel safe, and secure, and these destinations can offer a multitude of experiences and culture safely.
