BANGKOK: -- To successfully implement the national modernisation programme dubbed Thailand 4.0, the government needs to work closely with the private sector as well as educational institutes, since human resources are crucial to success.

One trailblazer in this effort is the College of Innovative Business and Accountancy (Ciba) at Dhurakij Pundit University. The four-decade-old university has reorganised its courses for bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees to fit the paradigm shift demanded by the ambitious Thailand 4.0 programme.

Dr Pattanant Petchchedchoo, dean of Ciba, notes that technology and innovation exemplified by the likes of Uber, Airbnb and Google Pay are key components of the 4.0 programme.

The tech revolution is making inroads even in the mundane sector of accounting, where artificial intelligence software such as Optical Character Recognition is set to take over routine bookkeeping tasks like the scanning of receipts and financial and tax documents for accounting purposes.

"...the government needs to work closely with the private sector as well as educational institutes, since human resources are crucial to success."

First step. Ensure that the private sector doesn't have undue influence over the educational institutes, whereby family status supersedes actual academic accomplishment in the granting of grades and degrees. In other words, they need to take the Thai out of the equation. Good luck on that one.

What a joke. They seem to think a paradigm shift in progress. Things happen a little by little. Maybe start to fix up education at an earlier level.

Obviously the word 'accounting' is misunderstood, they are talking about bookkeeping probably. Accounting is a legal situation where the incumbent is required to protect the assets of the owner/s and report thereon.

Most universities are politicized and restrict freedom of expression if it does not fit with the admintrators view point. Most universities also seem to be run in the archaic old beaurcratic system with committees and boards of Jurassic fossils at the top. Fat chance they are going to Show any progressive learning.

What the H is Thailand 4.0! Please, someone enlighten us dumbfounded...

There is one English word that sums up Thailand 4.0.

"Coddiwomple"

Definition:

To travel in a purposeful manner to a vague destination.

I hope that clears it up.

this is something many of us have been doing at home for more than 20 years.

In the late 1920s and into the 1930s Emanuel Goldberg developed what he called a "Statistical Machine" for searching microfilm archives using an optical code recognition system. In 1931 he was granted USA Patent number 1,838,389 for the invention. The patent was acquired by IBM.

Sounds like a software upgrade. Seriously if they don't intruduce critical thinking and let students question and answer questions they are going no where. They are so behind the times with their current education system.

If they want to move forward they have to change the status quo.
