Just  one piece of advice that should be give to every tourist visiting Pattaya, don't wear any gold necklaces, and don't stop and talk to ladyboys,  you are just asking to be ripped off.

Shouldn't you have a plan of what to do before booking the trip..I mean if you had used the internet search engine Google

you might have decided that Pattaya wasn't the best choice for a Family holiday...but I suppose that depends on what your family likes to do

If you want the beach then  go to Jomtien or get on the ferry and goto Koh Larn island.

go upto the Big Buddha on the hill there are also view points up on the hill. In the evening take a walk down  the infamous "walking Street"  then maybe some bowling or a movie at the Central shopping Mall.

Oh yes don't rent a jetski

don't forget to look every way when crossing the road... zebra/pedestrian crossings and traffic lights are not safe places to cross the road

and the side walks are often narrow and cluttered making walking around quite tiresome.

There is nothing really amazing in Pattaya that I know of and I do find it rather a strange choice for a family on a short first trip to Thailand. I think it's much more of an adult destination for those interested in nightlife.

Thai animal attractions are particularly objectionable to me and I would never frequent one. The only exceptions I would make are for the real elephant sanctuaries in the north.

Alcazar and Tiffany shows...its a pity the Alangkarn show has closed it was probably the most extravagant with live Elephants to boot.
