ashterrier Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Hi everyone. New member here, i am going to Thailand next April with 2 other guys for 2 weeks. We are flying to Bangkok first and have a room booked for 3 nights at the New World Lodge (booked by the travel company). After that we are just looking to travel round Thailand (especially Pattaya and Phuket), has anyone got any advise for me as to where to stay, how to get around etc etc. I am looking to stay in or around the lively areas where the nightlife is. All advice would be greatly recieved Cheers Ashterrier
bmanly Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Hi ashterrier and welcome to Thaivisa.com. This a great website and very helpful with any questions you may have. You have chosen BKK, Pattaya and Phuket for your first visit, well done. You will never regret going to Pattaya, it is a full on party town, I live there 6 Months of the year and never get bored. You have thousands of bars, nightclubs, go go clubs, discos, and live band venues there. Every year I try to visit more and more but I have so little time and so many places to visit. In Pattaya if you don't like a place you pay your bill and move onto the next, it just never runs out of places to go. During the day time there are several places to visit, the pristine beaches of the island nearby called Koh Larn, Nong Nooch, nearby towns of Bang Saray and Bang Saen, the Temples with laser carvings on the side of the mountain and much much more. Just type in to google Pattaya and things to see and do. Phuket is also nice, the second busiest place after BKK for entertainment. Beautiful again, nice beaches and plenty of night life at the beach of Patong. With only 2 weeks I doubt you will get to see much more of Thailand. It is very different in each area, for example Phuket is nothing like Isaan. For this trip I would do what you suggest and "wet your appetite" for Thailand then when you come back you can see more and more of the country. The way I get around the most is by blue air-conditioned coaches or VIP coaches if available. You can catch these in almost every town. Another good way of travelling is by trains, they are great and offer overnight sleepers as well. Enjoy your trip and good luck.
Mighty Mouse Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 April is the low season for Thailand so you shouldn't have too much trouble in finding accommodation, particularly in Pattaya. Pattaya hotels are cheaper than Phuket. You have plenty of time to do some internet research into hotels for Pattaya and Phuket. Perhaps if you give us a price range someone may be able to make some suggestions for both locations. Three days in Bangkok is OK if you like to do a lot of shopping during the daytime hours. Otherwise I suggest that you do at least one touristy tour. Perhaps the floating markets, Royal Palace or a rice barge tour. Night time activities are everywhere so I'm sure you'll be able to keep yourself amused without too much trouble.......but......getting yourself into trouble might be a different thing. *wink wink nudge nudge*
