Listing restaurant on Tripadvisor

Featured Replies

Someone I know whose 1st language is not English has contacted me for advice regarding TripAdvisor and getting his restaurant listed.

From what I can see they are rejecting his listing due to a previous restaurant being listed under the same address.

Anyone had such issues?

He cannot get the previous listing removed as owner is awol.

Would the quick solution to simply invent an address. So if he is 285 moo which is currently occupied on tripadvisor by restaurant no longer in operation, then call it 285/1 moo ........?

The biz is highly visible so I'm sure customers will be able to identify the business address but tripadviaor is currently the stumbling block.

Any advice?

Jst post it as a review with no other reviews and they should add it....change the address a little, then change it back after the review is added.  I go to some Thai places that have never been reviewed before me....done at least five.. Really not that address specific.

The restaurant owners don't "own" the listing.  Start by going to the old restaurant's reviews and click on "Improve this listing", then from the dropdown box at the top of the page choose "This restaurant has permanently closed".

I doubt, however, the problem is the address.  It's more likely that the review doesn't include enough supporting evidence (e.g. website) to demonstrate it really exists and is distinct.

The moderators are very inconsistent, and even simply resubmitting the review might do the trick.

Based on my experience with Trip advisor's reviews, I wouldn't bother haven't found a review on there site worth trusting yet.

It used to be just a quick glance was required but I agree I have found a fair few dud reviews but if I do need to refer to TA these days I have to vet it a bit longer.

More entertaining than facts...some of the farang owners show there true colors by their harsh verbal assaults on generally legitimate comments.  Anyone near the top is going way out of their way to please trip adviusor reviewers, including using paid shills.  Notice how many top places have reviews by persons with one review.  Or notice how some kind of unusual phrase will be used by entirely different persons only minutes or hours apart.

Anyone visiting koh samet may have experienced such abuse.

A friend listed his restaurant on tripadvisor. Although he received many good reviews, after a while he also began receiving bad reviews in the mix that became obvious they were competitors and friends of competitors trying to destroy his business. If competitors or enemies decide to gang up they can place business owners forever on the defence on tripadvisor that can turn into an online battle.

Readers are more inclined to go with the bad reviews and many in the hospitality industry have had their businesses ruined by tripadvisor. Best to stay well clear of it and use facebook instead where page or group holders have full control.

The number one restaurant in the whole of Hua Hin is a small guesthouse which doesn't have a proper restaurant with staff which is open every day.

You need to phone them before you come so they can open it for you. Sounds real high end but it's not.

It's a shitty little B&B, I've drove past this place during the night and the dogs sit on the tables (yes, the tables you eat on) and bark at people passing by.

I have the complete opposite experience!!! :shock1:

I am level 6 contributor myself

If something has a lot 5 and 4 * reviews and very few other 1 - 2 - 3 *  its surely good:wink:

Have to say i dont look at reviews for Restaurants or hotels any more its pointless. You invariably get good and bad reviews of any establishment. You have no idea who is leaving the good reviews.  Could be the owners and family themselfs.some of the bad reviews are laughable. My experiance go and eat or sleep make your own mind up. I never bother posting reviews either

@ALFREDO not sure why your confused with my post. I shall give you an example.

Trip advisor restaurant in BKK (no names) 30 reviews 5☆ great lets go.

Food was gash service was the worst we have ever had. The price for the gash food was extortionate. So got me wondering who put the reviews up? Did a google search for reviews on same restaurant. Came back as i had witnessed first hand rubbish1☆.

I put a review an honest review of restaurant on tripadvisor guess what! It was never published.

LINK or name please - I look that and give statement then -

30 - 5* reviews says nothing when I do not know how many others rated lower and how many reviews all together.

Also - you write "You have no idea who is leaving the good reviews.  Could be the owners and family them self some of the bad reviews are laughable."

For me it is a difference, if TRIPADVISOR members with no or only some reviews post a review, good or bad, or if somebody same me - Level 6 Contributor - posts something!

So please,  give a LINK and or name and I look further in that matter.

I will pm you not naming it on here. It only has 30 reviews all 5 star. But just becauseyou say you are level 6 that means nothing in the grand scheme of things you may rate something 5 ☆on monday and another may rate same restaurant 3☆on same day. Thats why i take no notice and try it myself.

If he is also a more higher level, more experienced TRIPADVISOR member, I will accept that sure -

by the way - between 5* and 3* rating it is not so much between, can be a small thing that ruined the all over impression of something.:post-4641-1156694606:

I rode with my motorbike from Udon Thani - Sakhon Nakhon border to Chiang Mai and there in Radius of about 100 -150 km around for many days - choose my Resorts and Hotels and Restaurants only from TRIPADVISOR - experiences of others and was never really disappointed.

You cannot take all postings of people accept fully, but the average rating is most times right.

If there are enough posters, not only a few.  :cowboy:

TripAdvisor has grown too big for them-self and they seem to have issues organizing all their traffic.

Lots of pending issues, no reply on e-mails, no help, while one still can post reviews.

Kind of  left hand is not up to what right hand is doing.
