Officers and monks at Wat Dhammakaya on Friday.

PATHUM THANI — The Department of Special Investigation now believes the fugitive leader of Wat Dhammakaya has fled his temple and will soon lift its blockade, a spokesman for the said Saturday.

Three weeks of siege operations culminated Friday with the search of an unfinished hospital where the 72-year-old Dhammajayo was thought to be hiding. But the monk was nowhere to be found, and authorities now say they’ve run out of places to search inside the sprawling temple complex.

Bloody clowns, he left months ago, and those in the temple has been playing games, running rings round the dopey sods of the DSI.

Another debacle closes. Maybe it would have been a good idea to have had firm knowledge on his whereabouts, prior to surrounding the place and subsequently looking stupid.

Full control junta, with absolute power under section 44, full might of the military, full control of rubber stamp NLA, 4000 man blockade - 0

72-year-old sick monk- 1 (or about 20 at this point)

You can't script this stuff. Even the Thai soaps are more realistic.

I'd say not announcing the search in the media a week or so before it, would've been a good start :D

A simply appalling waste of  the Thai's population's taxes.

Their was never any intention of arresting this criminal, just a normal day in Thailand.

The nation of lies, bullshit and smoke and mirrors.

Off they go with their tails between their legs and an international laughing stock. I'm sure plenty of medals will be issued for the Battle of the Wt and much backslapping will occur.

Stand by for a profound statement from the PM about not asking any more irrelevant questions about the whole farce.

sorry, but that would have spoilt the game.

That will teach the temple.  DSI Spits the dummy big-time, picks up its bat and ball, goes home and won't play hide and seek anymore. The monks didn't play fair for months, says DSI.  How many schools or health clinics did the whole game cost?

So when Somchai goes into 7-11 and comes out with his little plastic bag, he's not paid any tax?

In honor of its officers, commanders and strategy planners, I propose a petition to change the name of this highly esteemed organization into Department of Special Needs (DSN). Public sign-up lists will be laid out at all entrance gate to Wat Dhammakaya shortly.

I agree the monk is about as crooked as they come - but he did make this "all-powerful" government look silly...

Not sure about the 'international' part. Not sure anyone outside Thailand gives a hoot ?

This is what I have been saying since they went to the Watt He has left the country

What a waste of resources

The "authorities" seemed fairly confident, perhaps based on intel gleaned from a few on the inside, that Dhammajayo was somewhere on the temple grounds.

The junta used Article 44 to say that the temple grounds were a "controlled area"; which presumably gave them some extra-judicial right to seize, detain, arrest, search, confiscate as they see fit.

The "authorities" have said that they are/were confident that Dhammajayo has not left the country.

Now they are saying they have "tip offs" that he is "somewhere" nearby.

A report in the press a few minutes ago said...

The DSI will seek warrants to search places outside Wat Dhammakaya for its former abbot after receiving tip-offs.

And, the Justice Ministry will set up a "joint command" inside the temple to take over its management and maintain order.

Not sure about the 'international' part. Not sure anyone outside Thailand gives a hoot

This sect is apparently quite popular throughout the world, with adherents and temples in 30+ countries.
