rooster59
Taxpayers ‘should not need to foot bills’ for agencies’ overseas trips By KASAMAKORN CHANWANPEN THE SUNDAY NATION OVERSEAS trips organised by independent agencies as part of special courses are beneficial but the costs should not be borne by taxpayers, leading thinkers opined. Gothom Arya, a Mahidol University lecturer and former election commissioner, said these extra-curricular activities mostly served people of the middle and higher classes in helping them find new connections. “It has always been obvious yet understated about the purpose of these courses – that the attendees usually seek to join new circles that can be advantageous to them in the future,” Gothom said. “And certainly, at the same time they gain some knowledge from that course which is a good thing.” Full story: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/news/national/30308718 -- © Copyright The Nation 2017-03-
ezzra
Everybody knows that big part of being a politician and high ranking government employee are the many freebees and perks you get and the more the better, and why should they try to save? not their money, and the PM can always ask for more VAT and taxes right?..... whatawonderfulday
Yep, only government bodies under the direct control of the General should be allowed to go on these luxury overseas junkets at considerable expense to the tax payer
Philthyphil
This country makes me laugh. The rich avoid paying taxes, it is surprisingly simple to do and legal if you do it the right way. The lower classes pay nothing or very little. How many vendors even bother to pretend? Only the bigger corporations bother paying through VAT etc, then there are luxury taxes etc. But unlike western countries who are always harping on about the "taxpayer" because nearly everyone is a taxpayer, here people don't get as upset because nearly everyone is rooting the system some way, so it is the last thing anyone wants to address. They are working on solving this by jacking up the price of alcohol and cigs.
Srikcir
The junta is an independent organization, albeit not identified as such in the Constitution but practicably so by its ability to operate outside the People's Constitutions. So let's take it a step further to say that all junta-related operations must be paid by the military without reimbursement by the taxpayers. It may have to slash manpower, flag staffs, new procurements, pay raises, etc. and sell of its real estate and natural resources - but doable. mike324
these "education" trips are just paid vacations and provided spending money using tax payers money - there is nothing educational about these trips.
