Hello all. Apologies if this has been discussed before or is common knowledge but I can't seem to find a clear answer.

Recently applied for new UK passport due to my old one being full. Have now received the new one and was under the impression I should go to immigration to get the visa and entry stamp transferred to the new passport, as the British Embassy passport office gave me a signed form to give to immigration. However reading a few threads here it sounds as though the visa doesn't get transferred, only the entry stamp. Is this correct? And if so, does that mean I lose the 30 day extension I can currently use on my current visa? Again if this is correct is it better to wait until the visa is expiring then get the extension stamp put in the new passport?

All useful information appreciated. Thanks

Immigration does not transfer visas.

If you are on a entry that can be extended you can go to immigration they will transfer you entry stamp and do a stamp they will put info about your visa and old passport in your new one. Then they will do the 30 day extension of your current permit to stay (it is not a visa)  in your new passport.

Thank you. Do you also know how long the process takes (in and out same day or pick up the following day) and if there is a charge?

I went through this process a few months back at Udon Thani. It was a quiet morning and I was in and out in about 30 mins. They charged me 500 THB

If the new passport is obtained in ones own country and there is not a signed form from the embassy can the transfers from the old passport to the new still be done by just a visit to the local immi office?

Ok, thank you. I'm in Bangkok so doubt the experience at Chang Watthana will be quite as painless but fingers crossed.

Whether the letter from your embassy will needed or not depends upon the office you go to. Some don't ask for the letter at all and others waive it you have entered the country with your new passport.

It should not be that bad at CW and there will be no fee for doing it.

I'm sure it will be just fine. Good luck.

The IO i faced wanted a copy of the passport old and new + most recent stamps + the embassy letter

Mine was an extension of stay for employment (So this is worst case scenario)
