A man died early this morning after his car collided with the BMW belonging to the son of Thailand’s top comedian “Nong Cha Cha Cha.”

The deceased, identified as Pornpichit Nareunatmontr, 47, was making a U-turn on Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road outside of Bangkok when his car crashed into the BMW of Kittibhumi Iamsuk, 28, who was driving in the middle lane, according to police.

Police said the comedian’s son could not hit the brake in time and crashed right into the man’s car, INN News reported.

The BMW was westbound on 305 coming from Nakhon Nayok, presumably the other white car was making a U turn from the eastbound side and pulled out in front  of the westbound vehicle and was broadsided by the BMW.

The story says.......

"Pongsak added that his son was driving back from their family’s noodle restaurant in Nakhon Nayok to his home in Pathum Thani.

Police gave Pornpichit an alcohol test pending the investigation. No charges have been pressed."

From the clip then as often happens the person doing the U turn could not be bothered to stop and just kept entering the other carriageway. Irrespective of the BMWs speed any sensible person would come to a stop and proceed only when safe to do so. Luckily only 1 person died in this completely avoidable accident.

Yes, of course that is true. And the driver of the white car would appear to be at fault in that regard, RIP. However a major contributing factor in these events is the outrageous speed on the highways....they come up like a bat out of hell, just as in this case. For the turning driver it is very hard to judge. The choice for the person doing the U-turn is not great: keep going and run the risk that someone is going too fast and slam into you OR stop completely , wait for a break, obviously preferable , but still runs the significant risk of being slammed into when pulling into the lane from a standing start.

U turns are literally death traps in most countries, more so in thailand

I have had to slam my rakes on many times to avoid exactly this scenario.

Too many drivers here seem to think that once they start the U-Turn they have right of way.

Maybe the BMW was travelling a bit quick, but even 30-40 Kmh less, I still don't see him stopping in time.

This one has to go down to a Som Nam Na.

What are you talking about, Som Nam Na, how low can you be, yes he was at fault, but it was an accident, no one deserves to die in an accident. RIP

Dude, when you drive as stupidly as that, you do deserve whatever accident comes your way.

Don't get me wrong. I understand the pain his family will be going through, but this accident was totally avoidable, if he had just waited a few seconds for a break in the traffic.

I see this as Gods way of stopping the same thing happening next week with a fully loaded bus and countless dead.

I even have seen huge trailers making those U-turns on highways where all cars drive around 100 km/hr.

Or in BKK i see huge doubledecker buses making U-turns which is very dangerous....it only needs one cardriver who's on the phone or has faulty breaks....

Plus most Thai even can't make a U-turn!! They don't know how to take a corner so they only need 1 incoming lane..

Look at Chaeng Wattana after the Centralmall, they now closed 2 incoming lanes with barriers so they can make U-turns there...

Hopefully they teach the Thai soon how to make a sharp corner with a car and also how to make speed on the first lane before entering the 2nd lane...

Read: couldn't slow down from 150kph, or faster.

Where did you get the 150kph from???

If the impact had been at that speed the car turning would have been cut in two and the over car would have ended up with the engine in the boot and both drivers killed instantly, probably both cars would have turned into raging fire balls.

Accidents are accidents, they will always happen, he is as equally at fault as is the BMW driver who was travelling at what appeared to be warp speed, now figure this, the BMW driver was on his way home, so he knows the road and the black spot, who in their right mind would travel that fast being fully aware of the spot where cars do U-turns and or turn right into the side street.

The deceased driver obviously didn't see him as he went to do a U-turn (happens all the time), being absent minded leads to accidents, but had the BMW driver been driving at a more appropriate speed, the result may have been that the guy who is deceased, might have been around to hug his family once again, like I said, no one deserves to die in an accident.

I drive, I stick to the speed limit, I know where black spots are on long stretches, and have never had to apply my the brakes because I know when to slow down to avoid such accidents, as apart from wear blinkers like most horses here when they are bolting to get from A to B only to be seen at the same set of traffic lights a few kilometres later.

What exactly was the "outrageous speed" he was travelling at?  What is the speed limit at that point?

The BMW was going at "warp speed"?  I know that is a figure of speech but using it that way suggests that you know he was travelling excessively fast, how do you know that?

You must be the worlds most marvelous driver if you never have to apply the brakes in your car.  Congratulations.

The overall problem here may not be the driving but the ridiculously unsafe u-turns that have to be made across the busiest highway in the country. I seem them building more bridges so I hope they plan to abandon this middle lanes u-turns asap.

I find using gears to slow down when required to be more suitable on the stretches since you asked why "I never apply brakes" and yes I consider myself a good driver, never having had an accident in my 40 years on the road, driving and riding.

The U-turns at the Rangsit-Nakorn Nayok are designed very poorly. The main road has no design allocation for cars to do a U turn. Normally you slide to a lane on the right to made the turn but this road has no such design allocation. It is a straight road and lanes are drawn to allow an U-turn. Sometimes barriers are set up to facilitate the turn causing massive jams when cars switch from 4 lanes to 2 lanes. It is dangerous as well as disruptive. Plus the fact that there are just too many U-turn on a major road. The authority should stop all the u-turns and build a U-turn bridge at the end of both sides of the road. It is almost every week that an accident happen at the u-turns whether it is cars or bikes.

I think you all missed the part that the BMW drove in the middle lane. If the U-Turner still drove on the right lane nothing where happen. But ... him want drive to the left lane without to look it's free.

Why someone must break if the right lane is empty and everyone can do a U-Turn without problems???

Me not. And I drive in Thailand now for 25 years and never had a accident.

So don't blame the BMW driver.

Still the other driver was in a u-turn making him the responsible one 90%.Whoever devised these u-turns into a high speed highway had a very dumb idea.

I didn't ask you why you never apply the brakes, I simply congratulated you on your ability "to never have had to use them".  Never? Really?  God help your gearbox!
