Violence has been intensifying in the deep South during the past two weeks.

PATTANI: -- “We are worried about the situation as shootings have recently occurred on a daily basis in Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat provinces,” Southern Border Provinces Police Operation Centre’s deputy commissioner Pol Maj-General Tanongsak Wangsupha said on Sunday during his working visit to Pattani province.

He said he had received reports that the RKK, an insurgent group active in the southern region, had recently deployed new members in operations.

Tanongsak said his agency would coordinate with relevant authorities to boost security measures.

“We will comprehensively man checkpoints on both main and secondary routes,” he said.

He also urged local residents to alert authorities if they received tip-offs or noticed suspicious activity.

Same mumbo jumbo I am hearing world wide and have been for 4 decades. Surround people in a false cloak of security.

time for the govt to stop playing with these terrorists, if they lack the ability to hunt down and kill these terrorists then its time to hire a military group that can. Once a lot of these terrorists actually start dying/are being hunted and shot they will pack up and run like the cowards they really are, as long as they are not hunted they will remain in the shadows killing innocent people, a bounty on their heads and an open licence on them is the only way to go

Isn't that what the paramilitary rangers and defense volunteers are - local mercenaries?

The South is their Homeland - there is no pack up and run. I'd think they rather get the RTM to pack up and run like cowards instead. Without tanks and air support the RTM has had a very poor record of effectively conforting the insurgency on the ground. Even then The Philippines experience with local Muslim insurgents showed that firepower alone cannot defeat a determined homegrown insurgency.

I thought to the PM said he had all this violence problem under control and that harmony was to be established under his guidance. Then again he said he would have Bangkok footpaths under control and nothing much happened.

Walking the talk seems to be a problem for Mr. Grumpy.

Good point I doubt that extra violence is an option, almost no country can effectively combat insurgents, the US learned that.

The Thai military have not been fully attacking these thugs for a reason, and that reason

will change late in the Fall after October. The new rules will come into effect after that

and then you will likely see a different strategy and effort.  Do not forget that the country

is still in mourning. Enough said.

Geezer
