BANGKOK: -- National Buddhism Office director Pongporn Pramsaneh on Monday met chief monk of Pathum Thani province reportedly to follow up his earlier requests for the monk to consider punishment for two senior monks of Dhammakaya Temple.

Phra Theprattana Suthee, abbot of Kienket Temple, will also be asked to name the new abbot of the Dhammakaya Temple.

The fugitive former abbot of Dhammakaya Temple, Phra Dhammachayo, was stripped of his monastic ranks after allegedly involving in many criminal charges including money laundering.

Pongporn has submitted a request to Phra Theprattana Suthee to consider punishment for Phra Dhammachayo, possibly defrocking him.

Regarding the new abbot, the director earlier said that a monk with no affiliation to the temple should now be appointed to lead it to help with an investigation into the temple’s assets.

The meeting at Kienket Temple was closed to the media.

doubt these monks would want to even appear to do the right thing if it doesnt enrich them, the days of being a proper monk are well and truly gone, they have found just how wealthy they can become by going against their religion and basing it all on finances for themselves, far too many should be de frocked for the crap they are doing/causing.

Never mind appointing a new Abbot- disband this cult and seize all its assets.

As Buddhism is such a caring and sharing religion the money could be distributed for projects benefiting the poor.

Oh hang on- 'religion' doesn't work like that does it (not that the cult IS a religion).
