Switzerland to keep supporting Richner’s hospitals

Featured Replies

The Swiss government has vowed to help secure long-term financial sustainability for the Kantha Bopha children’s hospitals. Last week Beat Richner, the founder and head of the Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospital and a Health Ministry adviser, resigned from his position as managing director due to health problems.

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in Cambodia issued a statement saying the government of Switzerland was saddened to hear of Dr. Richner’s illness. It added the government of Switzerland, together with the Kantha Bopha Foundation, is committed to collaborating with the Cambodian government in working towards the long-term financial sustainability of the five hospitals.

“It will support the Foundation and Dr. Peter Studer as interim acting director to ensure the continuity of the hospitals as a model for high quality, free, child and maternal health care,” the statement read. ThaiVisa, c'est aussi en français

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

Nothing to worry, the Swiss Development Cooperation has all the money you may need and is also known for generous spending - some of it even for worthy causes like Dr Richner's hospitals.

If Mr. Richner would have added a "Barang" Branch also available to well to do Khmers, (charging Bangkok-Hospital prices) he could have made it self sufficient a long time ago. Him not needing to go play Cello all over the world to collect donations.

= A well led "Barang" branch, could have drawn a clientele from all over S/E Asia and well to do Cambodians would not have to fly over to BKK for treatement.

Instead of involving the Swiss-Taxpayer, a re-evaluation of the "Albert Schweitzer / Mother Theresa concept might be in order.
Cheers.
