Windows 10 startup dot rolling and rolling - Asus X52JE!

Hello,

I have an old Asus X52JE -computer and I am facing a serious problem with Win10.

I had it installed a couple of months but it stopped working every now and then. So I decided I will downgrade to Windows 7. Installation went smoothly but after a while it started to act like Windows 10, lagging suddenly.

So I decided I will give Win10 a new try: Installation went ok but when I rebooted I am stuck with the rolling dot.

I have tried all possible fixes Win10 offers: startup fix, safe modes, resets etc. Even I have tried fresh Win10 installation. Nothing helps.

I tested with Ubuntu and with Ubuntu everything works like a charm.

Any ideas how I will get Windows 10 working again. Could it be that there is something wrong with the boot-order in bios or boot sectors. I am not so familiar with those things...

Anyway, thank you again for your valuable help and time for reading this ;)

From the history you describe it sounds like it could be a hardware issue. That could be any of several things including mainboard, HDD/SSD etc. It could even be an incompatible WiFi card or graphics adapter causing intermittent faults. You might search the web for others having issues installing Win10 on the same machine.

After that these are the thing I would try.

1 - Make sure you are running the lastest BIOS version.

2 - Make sure the Partition Scheme of your install media matches the BIOS settings. i.e. MBR for BIOS, GPT for UEFI. Secure Boot on/off as appropriate.

3 - Before installing Win10, ensure that the disk is clean. You can do that by running DISKPART from your install media as follows.

Start the installation as normal

When you see the screen showing "Install now", instead select "Repair your computer" form the lower left.

Select Troubleshoot/Advanced Options/Command Prompt

Type in: DISKPART

Type in: LIST DISK (this will list your disks incl the USB drive. From the size shown, ensure that your HDD/SSD is "DISK 0" before the next step)

Type in: SELECT DISK 0

Type in: CLEAN

After that is done, reboot and try clean installing Win 10 again.

Doesn't Clean wipe the MBR/GPT data sector so in effect you loose the data on the disk ?
I think if you make a backup of the MBR you could then recreate the partitions you want to keep exactly as they where before and your data should be still there...but you must do the clean and recreate partitions immediately to minimise the chance of something overwriting the some data
If you don't care about the data then obviously just nuke (clean) the drive and start a fresh.

OP, no problem when you go back to W 10, you'll not have to insert a key, the machine "remembers" the key.

It sounds like you do not have enough memory, which would be some dirt on the DDR 2( 3) memory card, or on one of them.( Not on the card itself, on its contacts that go inside the motherboard.

What kind of Data cable does it have? Are they properly connected?

Is a CD inside and Autorun on? Then take it out, please.

Use the Crucial memory advisor here: http://www.crucial.com/

If your machine doesn't see one card, please take it out, ( PC switched off !), clean the contacts with an eraser and put it back in. make sure that it' fits 100 %. It should click when you put the plastic parts up that close it.

Disconnect all cables ( Power and DATA at your HD  and check how well the connection is, also check the connections to the motherboard.

You didn't write how old your machine is, so I'd reckon to use a program that checks your HD's health here: http://www.hdsentinel.com/hard_disk_sentinel_trial.php  hard drive Sentinel shows you all data, how long the machine was being used, how hot it got and finally how long it will last.

You can bet on it when it shows that it's time to renew the HD that it's true, no black magic, no lies.

BTW, HD Sentinel also shows you the temperature of your HD. Check if all vans are running well and that no wire is in the way.

Does the HD make noise? Usually, a sign that the arm is looking for the right place, but it takes forever.

Once you've done the check, I assume all is working well again and you can put on your Windows 20 again.

Don't worry about the CD key, the PC still got it.Good luck, please do not hesitate to ask, should you encounter a problem. Cheers.

OP, how old is the HD and what DATA cable is being used?

It's still possible that a virus or Trajan horse is causing the behavior.

Download this tool first, before you put on a Trail Kaspersky Antivirus.

It's called the Virus Removal Tool ( free) from Kaspersky) here:

https://www.kaspersky.com/downloads/thank-you/free-virus-removal-tool?form=1

Download and install the program and let it run. It will delete viruses and trojans.

When you're done with that, download the 30-day trial version of Kaspersky Antivirus 2017 here:

https://me-en.kaspersky.com/downloads/thank-you/antivirus-free-trial

. If a virus or Trojan causes your problem Kaspersky will find and delete it. Then enjoy your functioning machine.

To me it just sounds that you have a bad copy of Win10 and probably not run a genuine software. I might be wrong, but that is a very common way of getting the problems you describe.
If I am wrong, I appologize. If not buy a genuine version of Windows 10.

also when booting remove all usb devices ................................everything

There have been issues reported like you describe caused by inserted usb devices preventing startup/updates
