Public Health Minister warns people of diseases during cold weather

Public Health Minister Mongkol Na Songkhla has issued a warning to members of the public that diseases can crop up if the body could not adapt to the cold weather quickly. Some of the diseases include fever, flu, pneumonia, measles, German measles, chicken pox, diarrhoea, and respiratory-related diseases. He has also warned people to be cautious of mosquitoes as they are malaria carrier.

Md. Mongkol said flu and fever can be contracted when people inhale the germs from sick patients or share the same utensils with them. During the initial stage, the patient may have a high temperature, a headache and feel tired. He has advised them to take sufficient rest and be treated properly, and they should recover within a week.

Md. Mongkol said flu can also develop complications such as pneumonia, and some of the symptoms include frequent coughs, heavy breaths, and very high temperature. He said people with pneumonia can protect themselves by keeping their bodies warm, having enough sleep, and preventing direct contact with other patients.

In addition, they should drink water regularly and avoid staying in congested areas. He said immediate treatment is advised.
