Over 50 when I firsty visited and fell in love with Thailand whilst on a holiday visa.

I was retired at 50 through ill health and am therefore on a pension which provides me a small income & on a proper O M visa with 90 days allowed. trying to find information on the correct way to do things to comply with Thai requiements proved a nightmare whilst out of the country. Well now I am here in Phetchabun province & at last using mobile internet to post this. I did the Singapore run when my first 90 days was up. An expensive way to renew but it was done at short notice as stay in Singapore co-incided with stop over of ex-colleagues.

What I need to know is how do I get to stay for 12 months without the need to do the renewal run.

I have a Thai girlfriend and we are talking about getting married. I understand the needs for me to prove that I am free to marry & as I was divorced many years ago now wait for the paperwork so I can then go to the British Embassy and start that process early next year.

Depends on whether you want to get a 1 year ext. based on marriage or based on retirement.

For marriage you will need a proven income of 40,000 per month.

For over 50 you will need to show min of 800,000 in a local bank.

Back to you.

If you want to wait for marriage you will require 40k per month family income (can be you, her, or combination) and both have to apply for the one year extension of stay each year and present proof of marriage and living together and will likely take several visits for final approval.

If you want to use retirement you can do by yourself anytime that you can fulfill the requirement of 800k bank deposit with record of 3 months or income/pension of 65k per month certified by your Embassy or combination. This you can do by yourself each year with one quick visit.
