BANGKOK: -- Consideration of the proposal to set up weapons-repair facilities in Thailand will reach a conclusion by July, Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan was quoted as saying at the Defence Council on Monday.

Defence spokesperson Major-General Kongcheep Tantrawanich said Prawit had told the meeting that the government had been in discussions with China as well as other countries about establishing such facilities, with consideration of the matter expected to be concluded and the proposal approved by July.

Two new laws concerning the development of weapons and related institutions are also being developed and are expected to be ready for enactment by June, Kongcheep added.

The moves form part of the reform of the military to enable the country to stand on its own two feet in developing weapons, he explained.

The cat is away (in Bahrein ?) so the mice are rushing-out their wish-list, it appears!

I wonder what all the other arms-supplying countries might say, about giving a possibly-Chinese-backed repair-facility full access, to their hairy-planes & shooty-bangs ?  Is the risk of technology-transfer no longer covered, by the original supply-contacts ?  :whistling:

You already have a fully functioning weapon-making industry, just ask any vocational technical student...
