Panjaporn Posted April 25, 2017 Share Posted April 25, 2017 Hello out there. Well I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. Today I went to the amphur office, to get my yellow book, have all the necessary copy ready, or so i thought. To my surprise the lady asked for my Danish passport to be translated into Thai. Now I have checked with some friends, that already have the yellow book, and they all say, that is not required. Please help. DILLIGAD Posted April 25, 2017 Share Posted April 25, 2017 Every Aumphur & officer is different. Some know the rules & some make them up as they go along. If it were me, I'd maybe just get it translated (maybe a local Uni or Immigration could help?) What will NOT help you is proving them wrong. colinneil Posted April 25, 2017 Share Posted April 25, 2017 Panjaporn getting your passport translated to Thai is not required, but if that is what they want, that is what you have to do. If you argue with them it would be a serious mistake, and then you will not get a yellow book. As we all know some offices know the requirements, some dont. However if it is a small office or she is the only person available then I think it's going to be passport translation for you. I know a great place in Udon if your up that way you just scan them your docs and they will EMS the translation same day, cheap as. Don't have to go anywhere. taichiplanet Posted April 26, 2017 Share Posted April 26, 2017 as mentioned different offices have different requirements. i went to a different amphur and province than you. i had to get a certified copy of my passport from my Embassy in Bkk, then go to Nonthanburi to have the translation done and certified there. Took a whole day just to do that. Then take that back to the local office. KhunBENQ Posted April 26, 2017 Share Posted April 26, 2017 It is common practice that your passport needs to be translated. Translation includes a transcript for your name in Thai script. Also first name of father and mother in Thai script is required which usually comes from the birth certificate (also to be translated). I am more astonished that there offices that seem to do it on their own. Another explanation: people are legally married with a Thai partner and the necessary information was available from the marriage documents. Did not work in my case. To the OP: be happy if they are satisfied with a simple translation stamped by some local translator (as was for me). Others have been bullied with having the full round of stamps from their embassy and Thai foreign ministry. Hereinthailand Posted April 26, 2017 Share Posted April 26, 2017 There are no rules, it is all up to the person you are dealing with just like every other legal transaction in Thailand. I got my book in 15 minutes with hardly any paperwork but my wife was with me and had a fun chat with the lady doing my book. If they want it translated thats what you gotta do to get it. Hereinthailand Posted April 26, 2017 Share Posted April 26, 2017 Yes my wife is thai but if you dont know it everything you do here has a different office, there was no translation of names mine,parents etc. Also everything is done in big binders on paper, computers here are just for show. My point is every office for everything official here has different requirements depending on who you deal with. If you get one on a bad day you have to play their game or no service. Turned out what they wanted is your name and that of your parents plus date/place of birth written in Thai characters. Just did it myself and that was accepted. 86Tiger Posted April 28, 2017 Share Posted April 28, 2017 I got yellow book last year in Kut chap. My wife stopped by to get the requirements in person. They required translation of passport. The lady we used in Udon for the translation knew we would need translation of my parents names as well so everything went smooth.
