Meteorological Department issues thunderstorm alert

BANGKOK: -- The Meteorological Department on Thursday issued a warning for residents of many provinces in the North, Northeast, East and Central to brace themselves for possible thunderstorms between Thursday and Saturday.

 

The warning was issued at 5am on Thursday.

 

The department said the storms would be caused by a high pressure ridge that is expected to cover the Northeast of Thailand and the South China Sea by Thursday and is expected to last until Saturday while outbreaks of hot spells are still expected at many parts in the country. 

 

The department said thunderstorms with heavy rains and possible hails are expected on Thursday in the eastern side of the North (Phayao, Phrae, Nan, Uttaradit, Phitsanulok and Phetchabun), the Northeast (Loei, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Kalasin, Amnat Charoen, Ubon Ratchathani, Si Sa Ket, Surin, Buri Ram and Nakhon Ratchasima), and the East (Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Chonburi, Rayong, Chantaburi and Trat). 

 

On Friday and Saturday, more thunderstorms are expected in the North (Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Tak, Kamphaengphet, Phichit, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok and Phetchabun), the Northeast (Loei, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, Si Sa Ket, Surin, Buri Ram and Nakhon Ratchasima), the East (Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chantaburi and Trat), and the Central (Lop Buri, Saraburi, Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi, Suphan Buri and Ratchaburi) including Bangkok and its vicinity.

hope it will clear the smog in the North

Ban Phe got hit hard yesterday afternoon, knocked down poles and cables so there was a power cut for a few hours but I was surprised how fast they made the repair.

Had a big one the other evening power out for four hours here in Wichianburi town,much longer for those outside as many power poles came down. hoping we get one this evening without the power loss,as it really cooled down a very hot day.

Yes it cooled it down here as well, almost felt like winter on the saleng.

3 pm Friday and very hot and not a cloud to be seen , but likely to get a storm around 7 pm ,have done the past 4 days.  North of Chiang Rai.
