Roger Lee
Just a heads up that Savannakhet is wanting a ticket out of Thailand and an online copy of your bank statement for tourist visas, along with the usual copies of passport, Laos Visa and entry stamp etc. I overheard him saying to a few rejected applicants that the bank statement must have at least 20,000 baht in it. For the non-O (for purposes of retirement) I only supplied them the copies of my passport info page, Laos Visa and entry stamp along with a copy of my consulate income verification letter (notorized and the original was shown to him). He did ask for a copy of a online bank statement, which I had but he did not request a onward ticket out of Thailand. I had a ticket just in case. There were many people being turned away for not having the requested documents. One gentleman was given a hard time for wearing a printed t-shirt and jumping out of the line and over the chain to deposit his backpack on a table. So beware as they are watching you and it's probably best to be in good dress and behavior. I wore long shorts, sandals and a collared shirt, nothing was mentioned to me. Doiger
For tourist visas, flight or travel out of Thailand and proof of funds has been required since January 1st in savannakhet, and yes you are correct, the financial proof needs to be minimum 20000 baht Edited April 30, 2017 by Doiger

Vientiane on the other hand was requiring a medical and background clearance on my last visit for a non-O. tonray
This contrasts to the post last week who claimed he was denied after being told they would not be issuing any O Visas based on retirement anymore. I'm thinking he did not have his ducks in a row.
edwardandtubs
Does it have to be an online bank statement? That seems a weird rule. Would they not accept a real passbook from a Thai bank? Of course I could print off the online statement but that seems really weird.

Roger Lee
Can anyone recommend hotel other than the casino and Daosavanh Resort & Spa Hotel?I was somewhat disappointed with Savannakhet as everything is so spread out and difficult to get to without a Tuk Tuk. I stayed at the Avalon Residence and it was okay, the free breakfast was meh. Next time I'll probably stay next door at a place called Aura Residence, the food although not western was pretty good. Pilgrims Kitchen & Inn is highly rated and close to a night market, the food mainly Mexican, American and Indian was pretty good. I didn't see an elevator there. For a good cheeseburger Lin's Cafe doesn't disappoint. Sent from my iPad using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app
IMA_FARANG
I suspect they will allow a current bank passbook showing funds on deposit and immediately available for withdrawal. I used that once in Ho Chi Minh City for a SETV from The Thai Consulate there. But at that time I had about 400K in my Thai Bank account. The bank book was accepted . they are not fools. They wanted copies of your bank book or an online print out of your bank statement. Because I had a notarized income letter from the consulate for a non-O based on retirement not having 800k didn't matter I guess. I heard him tell one guy ahead of me it had to show at least 20k baht. Sent from my iPad using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app
madtrucker
I whent there on april19th. They never asked for proof of outbound flight. And I showed them a screen shot of my current Canadian bank. Balance from my IPhone. And they granted me the 60 day tourist visa for 1000baht as requested or for 2000baht and proof of marriage and proof of residency they will give you a 90 day tourist visa Edited May 1, 2017 by madtrucker

It had to be a copy of the bank book or statement only, also just showing the book or cash wasn't cutting it. A couple of folks ahead of me were being turned away for not having a flight out of Thailand ticket. Since I wasn't asked for one I can only speculate. Random or tourist? Since mine was a non-O, I don't know. Sent from my iPhone using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app
PJPom
I went on the 28th, was number 2 in line to apply for non O based on marriage. Number one in line hadn't filled in forms correctly so was waved aside within seconds. My paperwork handed over with a kop Kuhn Krap from me and a thank you from the IO in return, 2000 baht and come Tuesday 2 o'clock, sawadee crap that was it. I would say that the guys across the road at the visa shop do a simple and good job, 180bht including photos. Reminder to those doing Savannakhet run Lao immigration requires photo and 1500 bht to get in to Lao. Currently sat in hotel waiting for tomorrow, hooray for aircon

edwardandtubs
There's no reason at all why someone applying for a tourist visa shouldn't wear a printed t-shirt, shorts or even safari clothes. That's what tourists wear, isn't it? Ironically, the people dressed 'correctly' in sombre ironed shirts and trousers are the ones most likely not to be genuine tourists, but these are the ones being treated with more respect by the officials. I think they need training on not judging people by appearance. It must make a really bad impression if you're a genuine tourist on a journey through southeast Asia from Vietnam to Singapore that Thai officials are making a big deal about your printed t-shirt. PJPom
Quick update for Savannakhet, most ATM in Savannakhet are not accepting Visa, MasterCard or Cirrus. Nobody has given me a reason in the Banks I have tried.

Roger Lee
I noticed that also, figured it was just dumb luck. The bank caddy-corner from the Avalon Residence where I stayed does change Thai baht into kip, but won't change it back the other way. A lot of businesses and tuk tuk's will accept baht, but I'd ask first. 25 minutes ago, PJPom said: Quick update for Savannakhet, most ATM in Savannakhet are not accepting Visa, MasterCard or Cirrus. Wic
Hi. I'm going to Savannakhet tomorrow to apply for a non o visa based on marriage . Are these all the documents I need? 1 x application form with 2 recent photos attached 1 x copy passport, signed by me 1 x copy wife ID card signed by wife 1 x copy wife house book, her entries, signed by wife 1 x copy fancy marriage certificate, both sides, signed by wife and me. We got married last week but the Amphur office didn't give me a copy of the Kor Ror 2. Do they need this in Savannakhet?
