I'm considering buying a Mazda 2 for cash in Phuket, does anybody have any experience in dealing with the sales staff there and if any deals are being offered.......thank you.

Bought my Mazda 3 at the dealership off Chao Fa west, just past the Shell in Chalong (#4010 Rd.). Very little English but otherwise 5-star service.

Doubt you will get much of a discount but they will throw-in some freebies.

Thanks Antifreeze, just as I expected and will take my Thai wife for any translation as there is sure to be some misunderstanding. I've read Phuket car dealerships namely Honda Mazda and Ford have a reputation for not giving discounts and just offering freebies. I believe they offer black tinted windows which are too dark for my liking and prefer to pay extra for some decent 3M film which actually do work as a thermal barrier.

Thanks for your input and like your choice of the Mazda 3.

Your right that they don't offer discounts when paying cash.

I bought several cars (Honda and Toyota) and never had a discount when paying.

But if i took a finance i received THB 50.000 discount with all the goodies and 1 year free fist class insurance. (Toyota Camry and Honda Accord)

They where not happy when i insisted on 3M window film but they all excepted it.

So i put the money on the bank and took lowest level 1 year interest free finance plan (special offer) and bought the car with that.

In that way i did not lose money with using a payment plan and received the discount and all the free stuff and insurance.

As Honda and Mazda are from same owner i expect the same deal at Mazda.

I do not know about other dealerships as i have not tried, but Toyota gave us a 45,000 baht cash discount plus lots of freebies after getting prices from 4 different dealerships 3 owned by Toyota Pearl, every dealership offered different deals but the best 2 offers were make by 2 of the Toyota Pearl dealerships, It pays to shop around even if the dealerships are owned by the same company

We saved over 20,000 baht in extra discount and freebies by shopping around for 1 day

There are 2 Mazda dealerships, the other one is in Phuket town get prices from both if you want the best deal

We paid cash so they do give discounts on cash deals just do not believe what they tell you, just tell them you will go elsewhere they soon changed their minds, i told the dealerships we were getting 4 quotes, make them work for the deal

Visited the Mazda showroom in Phuket town this morning and was pleasantly surprised at the response from the salesperson. B.10.000  discount was offered along 3M window lamination with a choice of colour and percentage of tint.  White paintwork B.6000 Red paintwork B.10.000 extra.

One year full insurance and one years tax also included in the price.

The brakes were a disappointment only having Drum Brakes on the rear and discs on the front. Discs front and rear are standard on the Diesel Mazda 2.

Drum brakes are outdated and would like to know why they are still fitted maybe to save a few Baht but look cheap !

No final decision on buying yet.

I would say merijn is on the right track.  A few years ago we purchased a Mazda 3, offered cash.  The sales lady said that we can get you finance at 0.9% and our money was tied up in term deposit at 2%.  No brainer.  To sweeten the deal we received lots of extras including 3M tinting, insurance etc etc. Mind you this was at the BKK Motor Show.  I know that, in certain cases manufacturers subsidize the cost of finance. Maybe ask some Q's as this may be of benefit to you.

You have to be careful with finance company financing, its not always as good as it seems and usually is not

Is it compound or simple interest,  is the interest paid on the balance of the loan or on the full amount of the loan for the full loan period(compound interest)

What fees and charges are they charging you which are a separate cost from the interest charged and can be quite substantial

Is their a penalty payment for paying the loan of early

Finance companies make their money from usually unsecured loans which the banks are not interested in and charge higher interest rates and fees than banks do and hide this by calling it fees and loan setup costs etc

Check the total amount charged by the finance company( loan, interest and fees) against the amount borrowed and you will  get a surprise about the amount of interest you pay

The vehicle dealership gets a commission on arranging finance for you as well, that's the reason they recommend financing even if you can afford to pay cash

Buy a real car not a Mazda. By the way Toyota in Kok Khloy offers usually 30.000-60.000 discount with freebies and insurance.
