Power out today chaweng north

Featured Replies

Power has been out today from at least 10am to 4pm in north chaweng - apparently this was a scheduled outage anyone know what this was for so I know who to curse at - literally been stuck to my bed and furniture and when I went out it was even hotter

To answer your specific question, I don't know what the reason was. As a general rule, the power will go out on a scheduled basis 2-3 times a year. Ideally, your neighbours will give you a heads up so that you can make plans. When the power goes out at my place, I immediately check the time and when it is morning on the hour or half hour, then it is likely scheduled. It is usually planned to come back at 4-5 PM, although it does usually return before that.

I tend to save trips/exploration of the island for those days. In my case, when I lose power I head to Lamai to the bookshop, or the waterfalls around Nathon, or elsewhere.

All you can do is grin and bear it. And perhaps head to the beach!

Cheers

Why answer then?

Scheduled long power outages are usually due to tree cutting/clearing electric lines and normally start at 8am until 5pm. The PEA do send round vans and issue notices albeit in Thai - this IS Thailand. The reason they do that is that it prevents more problems when we get high winds or storms.

Mine has gone out twice recently in the evening, 7 pm or 9 pm, for about an hour in my area of Bang Por... Impossible to know why...
