UDD leaders face charges for masterminding disruption of 2009 Asean summit in Pattaya
By The Nation

PATTAYA: -- Leaders of the red-shirt United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) would face criminal charges in Chon Buri for masterminding disruption of the Asean summit back in 2009, even though they were not in Pattaya during the incident, Pattaya police said on Monday.

Senior UDD figures such as Jatuporn Promphan, Nattawut Saikua, Veerapong Musikapong and Weng Tojirakarn were in Bangkok during the incident, which resulted in the international summit having to be cancelled.

Pol Colonel Sahas Horavichit, deputy commandant of Chon Buri police station, said the red-shirt leaders would – following a recent complaint – be charged for arranging for the assembly of more than 10 people for an unlawful purpose, as the UDD demonstration had caused disruption of the Asean summit.

Sahas said police would also investigate the matter further and bring other suspects to justice.

He insisted that although the suspects were not at the scene, they could still be charged as there was evidence that proved their criminal intent.

The red-shirt leaders, who reported themselves to the police on Monday, said they questioned the procedure but were ready to cooperate.

The case regarding the disruption of the summit has already been settled in two courts, but an additional complaint was filed only recently with the police to press charges against the red-shirt leaders despite the fact that they were not in Pattaya when the incident took place.

Then why aren't they in court for their existing charges, delayed because several of the defendants were given party list seats as a reward for their crimes?

Red shirts, shame on you, I guess your group really does not have a soul, but only has corruption as it has

had since the beginning of the group.

Hmmm....people questioning our latest dodgy deals and the need for Yellow Submarines...I know! Let's blame Thaksin and the Reds! Errr...when was the last time we can blame them for something?

I look forward to the Airport Shutdown trial. In my next life.

Maybe for starter, they should investigate related events involved in the ASEAN summit meeting fracas like the action of the Blue Shirts involvement in the clashes.

I live in Pattaya and observed what was happening up close. While the red shirts always looked like ordinary people (young, old, male, female, families) the blue shirts were all young(ish) males, often scruffy looking and many were carrying some form of weapon (bats, sticks etc). Definitively a rent-a-mob.

It was rumored at the time that they were controlled by a certain football club and race track owner who later (seemingly) retired from politics.

" But photographers on the scene said the blue shirts, wearing balaclavas or scarves to keep from being identified, had clubs, bricks and slingshots and threw smoke bombs as they clashed with red shirts".

IIRC it was the reds that broke into the meeting causing it to be cancelled. I don't expect you to recall that part of the story.

So what do you think caused "ordinary people (young, old, male, female, families) " to disrupt an ASEAN meeting?

Another convenient post, share some details el. How come this has not been mentioned before el?

Even if true el, does that mean it's OK for the red shirt / udd thugs to force their way into a regional conference with quite some violence and make the invited regional delegates run in fear of their lives, and also pull abhisits' driver from his car and seriously / savagely beat him up, and at a report about 6 months ago the driver was still struggling to regain his ability to walk etc?

I could ask you what you mean but I don't really care.

You don't care, naah, that really means you want to avoid the facts.

Just google "blue shirt pattaya asean" and you will find a few sources mentioning it, including the guardian, reuters, a Thaivisa thread, etc... Then if you click on "image", you will find some pictures like this one.

Anyone??? I think they were few some BS by Thaksin's mercenary agitators (aka UDD), probably with some paid thugs to carry out the violence from within the crowd. Isn't that their usual modus operandi?
