Signs of global cyberattack found in Thai computers

BANGKOK: -- Thailand found spread of the global ransomware cyberattack in some organisations, police from the IT Support Division said on Monday.

 

Pol Maj-General Siripong Timula, commander of IT Support Division, Office of Information and Communication Technology, advised that anyone hit by the “Wanna Cry” ransomware do not pay the ransom but instead collect evidence and file complaints to the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD).

 

Police urged all Windows-based computer users to update their software to defend against the cyberattack which has hit more than 200,000 victims in at least 150 countries.

 

Any citizens whose computers have been infected by the malicious software can call 02-143-8448 or seek for more information at thaicert.or.th for assistance. 

 

Royal Thai Police deputy spokesman Col Krisana Pattanacharoen said that national police chief Chakthip Chaijinda had ordered all agencies to be careful in downloading data from the Internet and to be careful of state data due to the proliferation of the ransomware. 

 

He said Interpol had warned Thai police about the attack and urged vigilance. So far, neither agency of the Royal Thai Police has yet found any instances of the virus, he said.

Very confusing. Opening line says it is here, closing line says it is not. More quality reporting from Thailand I guess and also shows that they don't have a clue.
